“The opening of the national velodrome in Manchester back in 1994 signalled the start of an unprecedented run of success for British cyclists. It has played a major role in the careers of people like Sir Bradley Wiggins and Scotland’s very own Sir Chris Hoy. With Scotland now boasting its own world-class indoor velodrome, not to mention some of the best mountain biking facilities in Europe, I’m excited about the prospects for developing the next generation of Scottish cycling talent.”

"

http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/scotland/article/20130417-Scottish-Cycling-appoints-head-of-performance-0

There could have been a nice covered velodrome in Edinburgh (as well as Mcr)...

Cycling is 'transport' and 'leisure' and 'sport' - and a lot more.

There are some people who think 'sport' is a distraction from 'cycle campaigning'.

I just sometimes wonder if a disproportionate amount of time/money is spent at the top/elite end without enough emphasis on local/'beginner' facilities - and training/coaching (a vast amount of which is provided by dedicated volunteers).
