Bollards across that road would be more like it. Let the cars enter and exit at the bottom end, leave the access to MMW to pedestrians and cyclists. While they're at it they could link the lane to a right-round-George-Sq smooth segregated cycle lane and protect that with bollards too.

In fairness, the only way the motorists will ever be prevented from dumping their vehicles on pavements is to have bollards along pavements. Appealing to their better nature or handing out parking tickets will not work. Having said that, these look rather flimsy and plasticky; one by one they will be crashed into and before too long they will all have disappeared.

Yes.

And the university will revoke any academic qualifications (even if they didn't award them in the first place).

They have POWER you know.

@CyclingEdin @SRDorman There are restrictions - they cant build on it - but they can put up bollards.

@south_team Thanks

If @Edinburgh_CC wanted to put in bollards (on its roads) presume there would be consultation + TROs?

Does that mean that trikers will be breaking the law if they use the contraflow lane but straddle the solid white line in doing so?

"sounds like H&S"

So no H & S issues with having bollards in the cycle lane?

"Normal way of doing this would be to put them on the pavement!"

Not sure 'we' would approve of that - squeezing pedestrians is not progress.

NOPE. not according to the guy I talked to who said 'the lane's still inside the double yellows' and 'not much traffic down here anyway'

I suppose if it is a private road, they don't have to meet minimum cyclelane widths anyway.

Apparently it's to stop lorries parking on the pavement and breaking the slabs. sounds like H&S - someone's tripped on a slab and complained. so they're putting in the bollards and then repairing the slabs, instead of (a) enforcing existing double yellows or (b) asking their contractors not to double park there when they're doing building work in the basement of CMB.

Are they bringing in another humungous crane for the MLRP?

They've stopped updating the RSS feed for that project, and I can't find our Estate superintendat, otherwise I'd ask.

Does anyone know what is up with George Square lane? there is a row of tall bollards going in, on top of the double yellows. i.e. on the road in what is supposed to be a cycle contraflow.

Can't figure out what possible use the bollards could be. Sometimes coaches do park there, but not on the pavement.

All very odd.
