I figured it was a convenient excuse to keep riff-raff out of their five star estate. Though another sign further up list European bison free roaming. Take that as you will.
Ach well found a nice flat bit of forest closer to Pitlochry so won't have as far to go in the morning.
Leaving animals roaming freely
Farm animals, in particular bulls, which are left to roam freely in an area where the public regularly exercise access rights may be used as a means of deterring access where the public access land. The Heath and Safety Executive's advice note Agricultural Information sheet No 17 provides useful information on the potential hazards which can occur to workers and members of the public when cattle including bulls are kept in fields where the public exercise access rights. Farmers do, of course, have to keep their animals somewhere. It is expected that where a farmer keeps any particularly dangerous animal in a field crossed by a core path or a right of way that the local authority may regard such action as an obstruction to responsible access.
@IWRATS - interesting . Closer to home, Dalmeny estate has beware of the Bull signs up at the minute on the main gates on the B924. Similar thoughts to yours had crossed my mind, but I guess there are many alternative routes

Alternative routes are no excuse. Under the act you can't use animals to keep folk from accessing open land.
That's one of the key arguments around the proposed re-wilding (actually fencing-in with introduced wolves) of Alladale estate.
Not the only right of way that I found obstructed. I thought I'd missed my turn on the way out but on closer inspection a little while ago there is a fence and the remains of a track couldn't see it from the other side or it would have saved me a good half hour on the road.
Having had a look at on OS map, I'm less sure of the access issue above. The track is on OSM but not the OS so the owner of the land may have stuck the fence up to prevent folk short cutting, though since the short cut winds up at a Bison enclosure I'm not sure it was time well spent.

probably its probably right that I didn't climb over any fences and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the dbout but there is a bit of path from the opposite side and it would have saved a lot of walking.
As for the Pitcastle estate there are a power of paths marked on the OS map which I'm assuming they'd rather people didn't access. Is there someone this can be reported to? I don't suppose it makes any real difference but you never know.
For the record I was heading for Loch Derculich, very glad I didn't bother bringing my camera.

With bikepacking I have discovered a correlation between the degree to which I ride like I mean it and my ability to sleep afterwards.
Though I almost always wake at 04h00 and nip out to pee in the half-light. The world rarely looks better.
Last weekend the spot that looked fine whilst in my walking trousers turned out to be a chute in my sleeping bag with slippy roll mat. Ended up having to re-pitch the tent between one of my naps I think the only reason I slept at all was due to pushing on with a pretty heavy pack.

Got a pre-2003 style shouting at in Glen Ample yesterday, while descending from Stuc a' Chroin on an estate track.
Chased by a gamekeeper on a quad bike and everything. Our group contained many professional persons well aware of their rights. We stood our ground and saw him off but I have wrote to the council as well. You've got to fight. For your right. To acceeeeesss.
Tell more - what was their position? Ignorance of fifteen year old legislation? Hope that your party were ignorant of it? Or just old-fashioned bullying?

I've been investigating alternate routes to the loch I was making for above. The alternative route is about 17km, bit far for a round walk and not quite far enough to warrant schlepping the bike up on the (typically) over crowded Inverness service.
Cable-op disc brakes - nothing in principle but in practice they're not made very well. Take them apart and they're junk in my experience. Result is poor lifetime and performance, constant squealing.
Shame, as the principle of simplicity and field-repairablity suggests they should be the default.

I've been fairly happy with my Spyres biggest problem is glazing on long descents but thats more the pad.
I once managed to pull a Spyre past its 'stop' point resulting in having few brakes downhill on Dundas St. Not sure how - perhaps the pad was overworn but still.
Swapped the Spyre out for a HY/RD on the front as insurance.

Not sure when but probably around easter probably just take a bivvy bag. Potential for turning it into a nice circular route if there is an accessible path across the estate to Grandtully. Need to get an OS map and cross check the Scotways book to be sure.

Getting nervous now I may have just irritated the gods of bicycle maintenance and I'll get a nice catastrophic failure next time its warm enough to use the cdf.
Replacing the drive train/shifters in the spring so tempted to go hydraulic any way.

I am 100% on for the Tyndrum-Taynuilt 8hr off-roader as soon as there's enough daylight and before the midges arrive. (Though that might mean there's quite a LOT of water to cross?) Camping here OR a night in the Tauynuilt Hotel for the @Ian McRs among us.
