Surely you could (very carefully) pavement cycle if it's a core path.

Responsible pavement cycling appears that be OK on a core path. I don't know if that extends to the carriageway though.

It does, although there's an argument that ignoring the (apparent?) prohibition on cycling is inherently irresponsible.

Micro-Greenroofer was playing Lego Worlds on the Xbox this afternoon, and showed me how he could make his mode of transport a bicycle. The little Lego mini-figure of Batman did indeed leap elegantly onto his Lego bicycle and pedal off in front of us. The only problem was that he displayed the classic hip-rocking motion of someone whose saddle is too high.
I mean really. Surely they could have got this detail right.
Who do I contact to suggest that Lego Batman needs a professional bike fit.

One of those days yesterday.
The lights were out on the path around Telford, On two occasion I nearly went head first into an oncoming cyclist while making overtaking maneuvers, the first had a tiny blinky with near exhausted batteries which I barely seen and the second was completely unlit and being tailgated by a bright light so I couldn't see them at all. Both occasions I was approaching a pedestrian and going quite slowly so braked and ducked back in. Down side of the very shaped beam on the dynamo light, its very hard to see unlit objects to your right.
Second incident was a chap who missed the road closed signs on Wester Coates Tce, crossed the main road and ended up tangled in barely visible rope. He had the matter in hand by the time I came round the traffic to see if he needed any assistance.

Cyclist last night that mounted the footway at the Gilmerton Road/Liberton Road junction, then discovered that the dog and pedestrian on the footway were connected...
Ripped the leash out of the owner's hand and rightly got an earful. Dog seemed unfazed.

Numerous offenders on the way home with no lights on coming home around 6pm. I literally lost count and it wasn't just students either

Perhaps it's my motorbike training, but before you move left or right into a space you believe is empty, you do a shoulder check first to make sure it really is empty.
Otherwise you end up on the receiving end of a well meant but slightly cross sounding comment from a following fellow cyclist on a busy Leith Walk who, despite planning and positioning for an overtaking and filtering manoeuvre before you did, had to brake sharply because she was about to use the piece of road you moved into without looking.
You quite rightly didn't know what I was talking about, because you didn't look over your shoulder first to appraise the situation.

What an absolutely horrible, horrible ride home that was.
I partly blame the drivists for clogging up the roads, when they know FINE WELL there are roadworks that clogged up the roads yesterday, that made me not use the red torpedo today because I cannot filter effectively in it. So that is really a post for today's rubbish driving.
I partly blame the drivists on the Seafield Moor Road for blinding me by not dipping their headlights. So that is also today's rubbish driving.
I partly blame the weather for being so damnably windy. My Elephant Bike is just too high geared to ride up to Fairmilehead into the teeth of a gale. So that is really today's severe weather warning.
I mostly blame City of Edinburgh Council, for not doing anything to improve the safety of the wet wooden-decked platform overlooking the Meggetland playing fields, at which I stopped to catch my breath. The boards might as well have been covered in ice. This 1) caused me to fall off my bike, 2) potentially damage what I was carrying in my pannier, 3) led to what is now a super-painful swelling on my shin where it crashed into the frame of the Elephant Bike, which I was riding because it was supposed to be the most stable (and at least modestly filterable) alternative to the torpedo, and 4) caused me to break my front lamp that was attached to the fork. So that is really today's rubbish pedestrian surfaces.
I was running FOUR front lights this morning. The crash killed one of them. Another went flat halfway home. The ten miles took me an hour and 24 minutes.
I have now bought myself a bottle of cider and I'm going to have a curry for tea.

Soothing bath in order along with your cider Arellcat.
That is a tale of suffering and a half and worthy of its own thread. Upright bikes are lethal. Heavy ones more so ;-)"Wet wooden-decked platform" - these are super slippy in wet, no matter what texture on the boards.
I know, having come off on ones at Granton park.

@arellcat, commiserations but cider and curry and the hot bath might do the trick?
On mental cycling. Tonight at the infamous Diggers Fourway the kingsnowe chap just in front of me stopped at the red light. I caught him up and stopped, time ticked by, slowly. Maybe two seconds later a deliveroo guy came bombing through the red heading west just as the cars started coming up from the western approach.

I would have had a bath if my bathroom was worthy of the title, but I only have a shower. Which I certainly used. My shin hurts like hell.
Cider was good though.

Bit of a chancer this evening. I was driving up Lothian Road in a works vehicle, amongst so many other cars, with the intention to turn left onto Bread Street. Cyclist who was otherwise well lit undertook me shortly before the junction and then pulled into primary, perhaps to make the next right into Fountainbridge. I hadn't yet indicated my turn but had already done a left-hand shoulder check, which is why I slowed down to allow the cyclist to pull fully ahead. I could so easily have simply accelerated and turned left without looking and knocked him sideways.
My shin still hurts from the falling-off documented upthread.

I followed a rider along the towpath in the dark this morning. He had a dark coat, dark trousers and dark shoes. He even had a black helmet. He didn't have any lights at all, though. He was completely invisible from just a few feet away.
I mentioned this to him as I passed and he turned onto the road, but he wasn't receptive to the comment.

Someone on NEPN on Thurs evening with a red light on their handlebars. No white light. Possibly more dangerous than no light at all, as it is misdirection to other road users.

I saw the 'red light on the front' bike yesterday.
Rider heading towards Kings. No rear light.
(Rider description and gender withheld)Starting to get high level of recognition.
Maybe enables the rider to go along Melville Drive cyclepath against oncoming traffic? ;-)

I may have seen this rider on a few occasions too, in the general vicinity of Newington, South Clerk St, etc. A small red light on the handlebars, positioned a short distance right of the stem?

Might be a different rider. It was heading north at 5pm near Craigleith. I couldn't see any details of bike or rider. I shouted out "you're going backwards" which probably didn't help...

Ran over a bit of automobile on Madame's bike on the way back from Outer Colinton (Woodhall Road....really? That exists?) and punctured the rear tyre.
Had to walk home via Morningside and Blackford where I think I spotted @nedd1e_h exiting the pond en famille.
