Notes from Lancashire; It is almost forbidden to not park on the pavement there. I tried parking correctly but got grief and decided to park like a native. I'm told police will enforce on-pavement parking in some places.

Oh man... trying to drop daughter #1 off near town, came across a driver trying to parallel park in St Stephen Street. They tried 7 times to go in and out, but alas I could not go anywhere because it was too narrow a street to squeeze past, so the poor driver had to try in vain to repeatedly get it wrong over and over and over and over while I sat there unable to do anything other than watch...

we went to Cramond Island yesterday (Cramond village, by all that is holy, get some damn bike racks!!), and there was a small grass fire as we were leaving. the couple in front of us called it in. partner stopped to talk to teh arriving fire crew when he met them at the start of the causeway--it seemed out, but of course in this weather, they're going to check it out.
went to our bikes parked near the safety bollards; fire truck was sat behind a little red car in front of bollards. driver was found and insisted he had no idea he couldn't park there. despite signs on them. but hey, it's cyclists who should pass a test...
terrible attitude from driver, he was really upset that he was going to be ticketed--from the looks of the family, don't think there's much room in their budget for a ticket. their friends had parked nearby, and one said indignantly, "well, i heard them say the fire was out, so why do they need to get through anyway??"
not sure why they couldn't use the fairly large car park they'd driven past to get to the bollards.

Festival Travel coaches parked in convoy along Dundee Street to drop foreign summer school students off at the student housing nearby, completely blocking the pedestrian crossing to Fountain Park in the process.

@canuck: he's lucky his only expense is a ticket - presumably if life was at risk the fire service would have just used Any Means Necessary to get the car out the way instead.

I think you are being unfair. It's an easy mistake to turn off the road literally taking you to the huge free car park, past the "No public parking beyond this point" sign and then the TWO "Authorised Vehicles Only" signs, the "Private Ground No Parking Beyond this Point" sign and the "No stopping at any time" sign. Can't blame the driver for that, surely?
Go this way all the time and it regularly blocked. The part at the bottom of the hill with the double yellow lines also sees people parking, including one of those army boot-camp fitness companies. The bin lorry workers love it when there is someone parked there!

Forgot to mention the van double-parked on George IV Bridge the other day (with its hazard lights switched on, naturally) such that traffic heading out of town had to take to the cobbles to navigate around it.

Two transit vans, both apparently owned by the same company (flooring or carpets I think, I didn't make adequate note of the name) double parked crosswise behind cars legally parked perpendicular to the pavement in front of the shops on the Stenhouse Cross roundabout. (I've always thought it was a bit daft putting shops actually on a roundabout, and then allowing parking in front of them, but it does seem to work OK most of the time - until White Van Man turns up desperate for his teatime snack from the Sitooterie.)

A traffic warden was enforcing pavement parking earlier, requesting that the contractors working in Jericho House remove their van that they had left parked on the large expanse of pavement outside on the corner of Potterrow. Unfortunately no traffic warden was visible yesterday evening when a Royal Mail van was briefly parked there.

@neddie I assumed that was a road for access to the clubs/allotments:
* No blue signs
* Painted line ends just after the school
* Bollard where the path from the bridge joins it
* Dropped kerb at Seafield Place, pre-dating the cycle routeEDIT: Curiously, looking at the 2012 street view, there did used to be a blue sign at the end of this path.

there was a car on the grass in George V park this morning. The only people around were a family in the toddler play area next to where the car was.
I can't think (hope) it was them, I decided not to stop and and enquire as it would have been too depressing to find out it was them - also swearing in front of small kids is not cool as I found to my cost last weekend as mini-McR was present when I was watching the football and now repeats bad words randomly.

There is a red van FES which I think is electrical firm? Parks on the grass next to the segregated path down through dumbiedykes. This involves getting under the trees. Not sure why the driver thinks he owns the place? (Assume a he)

Fecking traffic chaos in downtown Balerno this morning. Driven at by sandwich van at high speed twice, then he parked over the dropped kerb. Next a massive Range Rover parked on the pedestrianised street outside chemist. Massive guy inside, smaller woman I am guessing wife,ninside pharmacy, how kind of him to drive her straight to the door, oh wait, maybe he could have picked script up for her himself, next a merc trying to drive though the dead end, at least she spotted this and tried to turn which was quite hard as various other motors parked on the double yellows.
All to background of water sprinklers soaking the street and old MacDonald from nursery.

HGV parked on the pavement outside Dominos in Gilmerton. All four wheels on the pavement,and positioned so that they'll have to reverse at least 20m along the pavement to get back onto the road.

The strip of grass at St Leonard's that runs parallel to the greenway style pavement down to dumbiedykes near the Skelf is now a car park. I have been complaing for several weeks about The company FES parking its red vans on the grass. Brown street is having bollards to prevent access but up at the top the bollard that was sitting in a lump of concrete has been dragged out the way and six cars have driven on to the grass. My latest tack is to see if council want t turn this into paid parking. The residents further down in dumbiedykes central are having big alterations to their parking so this is an overspill.

In the bus lane outside the Portrait Gallery by the top of Dublin Street, a small silver car with no one in it. A woman in a bike towing a toddler on a tagalong (to whom much respect for braving that route) had the unenviable choice between pulling out into the Queen Street traffic or squeezing between the car and the kerb. She chose the latter, and seemed to be more careful than I would have been to avoid scratching the car.

Last night a silver car parked (no driver) in the ASZ at the Dublin Street/North St Andrews Square crossing.
Of all the places to just lock up your car and walk off, in the bike box at a traffic light is quite original.

The one time I bothered to point it out to a driver, they said "But there's no double yellow lines". Clearly that means you can park anywhere you like, so long as there's no DYL.

@dougal - that's the car I saw this morning and mentioned in the post above yours. It had a ticket on it by the time we were there, but if it had been there all night it really should have been lifted by now.

The Sustrans 4x4 blocking the path just by the junction at the Leith end of the Chancelot Path last night.
Total lack of awareness of the danger they were putting cyclists and pedestrians in as they approached what's already a totally blind junction.
All so they could stand nearby and carry out a survey - could they not have parked on a nearby street and walked there?
