New Tarmac

@chdot as always, a single central bollard would suffice to slow and deter the casual quadbikeist.
The path narrows considerably there and it's a blind corner thanks to the high fence on the curve, so something is probably an idea.
Chicane barriers at the other access (Traquair Lane) also been given a wider spacing.

Have they filled and sealed the holes where the barrier used to be? Last time I went this way it had been filled with sand, which had washed out, leaving 3 not insignificant holes in the path.They have now...
and with a lick of paint and some reflective stripes too.

The access path to the Astley Ainslie from Cluny Place is being upgraded.
Just as steep, and not any wider but smoother tarmac should help. I don't tend to cycle this way (only once I think) but it is a nice quiet route.

Noticed this a week or so ago but only just remembered:
Queensferry Road heading East into town from Queensferry terrace to the pelican crossing outside Stewart's Melville College has new tarmac with red stones in. They even repainted the lines on the juting out island here: Linky

Has the resurfacing at Wester Coates been abandoned? I've not seen any progress, or even any workmen, for over a week.

Lovely stretch of smooth fresh tarmac in the bus lane on London Road, heading west opposite Meadowbank retail park. Just finished thus week, cycled it yesterday with No.1 son, a joy.
Alas once you pass the traffic lights and head onto Cadzow Place, it's the old crater strewn nightmare! Methinks they should have resurfaced that section as a priority: hopefully they're not going to just leave it like that, it's downright hazardous.

I've not seent the state of the works but it wouldn't be the first time a job which didn't complete before the end of the tax year was abandoned. It happened on Maybury Drive last year, Having only resurfaced half of it between January and April they then stopped and a few weeks later they came back and undid the preparatory work they had done in January.Posted 10 years ago # -

Sorry CEC your lovely new chicane at Paddockholm (photo above) have had a chunk of paint taken off them today.
They may be tandem friendly but the addition of a trailer was too much for them...
My thanks to the pedestrian who manfully lifted my trailer round so that I could get through.

Resurfacing of Wester Coates eastbound is nearly complete and what a difference it makes. I can now concentrate on dealing with traffic rather than weaving though the craters. Let's hope the westbound section is finished shortly as well.

West Port downhill from the junction with Lady Lawson is all fresh and smooth.

The bottom of Kirk Brae is being completely resurfaced. That's great news as it's pretty steep and the surface was awful. The road is still closed atm

There seems to be something doing on Salisbury Road/Salisbury Place too.
Will see if I can get a pic tomorrow, assuming there's anything more interesting happening than the unloading of big machines.

Of course there have been 'plans' for a contra-flow on LLSt for more than 20 years.
A small section has even been built at the Lauriston Place end.
So this 'rebuild' should have been a great opportunity -

I think we had some notice of this but not enough to progress TROs to remove parking / loading down one side of street. This would be needed to fit in a cycle lane (plus margin to parked vehicles). Painting a white line is the easy bit and could still be done at minimal cost at a later date. This street will be assessed as part of one-way review currently underway and an appropriate contra-flow solution identified.

UPDATE
Actually it's been (not) coming for 30 years. First proposed when the fire station was still at the top of the top of the road. The one in Ponton Street opened in 1986.

Don't know when this segregated (wow) contra-flow section was built - but long enough previously to have already been dug up and patched!
This was taken more recently, but 'nothing has changed'.
All clearly show that the parking is on 'the wrong side' and moving it wouldn't even mean - the 'impossible in Edinburgh' - losing parking spaces!
ALSO shows plenty room for a fully segregated lane (at least as far as the Art College entrance).

There's nice new tarmac on the canal towpath from the Almond aqueduct out to Broxburn (and possibly beyond). It was still fresh enough to be beading water last Friday. Heading towards Edinburgh it was a rude awakening to discover it stopped with the cobbles and mud as soon as the CEC boundary was reached.

Nicest before they put the whin dust down.
Sustrans and Edinburgh have made it all the way to Ratho so I guess the next stretch is Ratho to the almond aqueduct. I dismount et that aqueduct as it is bumpy. It was supposed to be closed at same time as Linlithgow season and slateford aqueduct, sounds as if it is open?

East of Cliftonhall Rd looked like this last week:

Given a choice between nice winter sun and a nice new tarmac surface I think this week is definitely better. I wonder if they will relay the sets on the aqueduct.

"Maintenance works at the Avon Aqueduct have been postponed until Winter 2017/18 due to heavy rainfall and poor ground conditions on site.
Avon Aqueduct will be closed to traffic from Monday 27th February for a period of 3 weeks and will reopen on Saturday 19th March 2017."
