Despite the headwind and despite the complete lack of juice in my legs after the weekend's cycling, had a lovely run into work this morning in the warm(ish - it's all relative to our -10 winter!) spring sunshine. Riding glasses set to "shades", full finger gloves and the merino skullcap were overkill and unnecessary.
Took a fancy for some ice cream so decided to head home via Cramond and the foreshore, taking the advantage of the sunshine and tailwind. Alas there was no van at the end of the promenade so spun slowly east soaking up some rays.
All the way through to the "new bit" at Granton where there's been progress since my last photos, usual silly fencing baffles have appeared to make your exit onto the road as difficult as possible. Work on laying the ornamental paving in progress and still fenced off.
Then spied a huge mountain of bricks on the foreshore that I'd never noticed so just had to pull off the road for a rake around in the dying rays of sunshine. In 5 or 10 minutes I had 12 different ones from as far away as London and the Rhondda Valley and all across the central belt of Scotland to our own Niddrie, Winchburgh and Roslin.

Strong tailwind blew me from Kirknewton to Wester Hailes via Long Dalmahoy and Heriot Watt at lunch time today. When I came on to the canal at Hermiston there was a fellow neath the bridge playing very mellow jazz saxophone. Would have missed that in the car. Same as those huskies and triler we spotted on the Col du Climpy. All good. Might be able to pick up a BBC next time I am down in Bedford, in laws have a house made of them.

What a lovely ride!
gentle along the prom to pick up supplies then on the ncn to whitecraig and dalkeith, and out to rosewell. Decended through the potholes into roslin glen and climbed again the other side a climb so steep I was going 'YEAH! HUH!' to myself as I reached the top (150 feet in less than half a mile) A stop to stock up on chocolate at the spar then straight off to loanhead and hightailed it down the A701 to town for mosque curry.
Was a good day for really getting to grips with the new bike, found I could get snacks/phone etc out of my trunkbag behind my head without stopping. Also found I could eat quite happily on the bike, something Ive never been able to do before.
Also, despite having come this way before I noticed so much more on the bent, saw some amazing buildings and towers so huge and noteworthy its hard to explain how I missed them the first two times.
I had a lovely ride today, thank you!

Lovely day, spoiled only by line problems outside Linlithgow meaning I was well behind schedule so no time to dally :-/
Still, half an hour - an hour late and blow me there were LOADS of bicycles out and about, from the obligatory rlj cheap mountain bike through to the fully kitted roadies (hello to the one who scalped me on Slateford Road, so you should to a tourer with panniers lol). I can't remember ever seeing that many bikes in use in Edinburgh apart from at organised events. Great to see :)

Warm and sunny, no wind, what more can you ask for?
50km this morning. Lost sunglasses portaging at Ratho unfortunately (two weeks is a short lifespan even for me).
But, I finally rode the path round by the cattery as tipped off on a previous thread. Very nice - metalled surface all round.

What an amazingly beautiful and perfect commute! Slipped through traffic with consummate ease, whistling as i went in the glorious sunshine. Was a bit warm by the time I arrived at work, so it's time to dig out my shorts and array of awful cycling tops, I fancy.

Genuine bikefest out there this morning (and yesterday evening), it's great and encouraging to see :)
Felt great to be in shorts and a t-shirt slicing through the traffic.

Left early just so I could sit on a big rock beside the Innocent (just out the bottom of the tunnel) and watch the birds (feathered variety). Without fail every cyclist took a quizzical look at me, then peered up at the scrub opposite that I was pointing a lens at.
THIS is what makes cycling to work worthwhile (amongst many many other things) - being able to stop and appreciate and just 'relax'.
Seriously, how many people actively relax while commuting?

Woke up at 4AM to go to the airport for first flight to London only for Fog at City airport to cause it to be cancelled.
Gutted I haven't got the bike for a ride home, will have to get on a train and walk up from Haymarché

Decided to cycle down the riverside from Roseburn to Stockbridge rather than take the roadway as I normally do. (And cycle home up the river path)
Fantastic sunshine, short sleeve hivis letting the black cyclevest get warm yet niec and cool when zipping along the path at 20mph (in a few short sections) and the slow sections were fun too listening to the birds, Zounding at a jogger who must have bleeding ears from the volume on his headphones as he didn't hear me, passing the weir and the sunshine lighting up the water.
Tranquil. I almost wanted to keep on riding to Ocean Terminal and on to Portobello and Mussleburgh just for the hell of it.

Lovely ride out along the Innocent Railway to Asda to do the big weekly shop this morning. It was a bit more overcast than I expected but still lovely, and lots of people seemed to be out and about.
Also road-tested my new Fastrider panniers that arrived last week - fitted a week's shopping (albeit for one person) in them easily, and they seem to be pretty decent.
Then round and about Marchmonth/Morningside/etc kind of area to visit my auntie and pick up a mother's day present. All in all, pretty nice :).

My first ride around the Dalmeny Estate today. Weather was overcast, but pleasant enough. Wasn't sure if I could enter via the main gate off the A90, but while I was staring at my map to check rights of way an older gent living in the gatehouse asked me if I was OK. A short conversation ensued during which he expressed pretty positive opinions of the cycle riders that go around the estate (he was less complimentary about our motorised fellow road users). He also confirmed that the main drag was the way to go so off I set. It's quite a cyclists playground, plenty of tarmac, some rougher bits and quite a few ups and downs - all together great fun! Oh, and the house isn't a bad looking gaff either...

Aye that was pretty much my view, so I hunted around for a while to find something more suitable - was a wee bit difficult as most that would suit were £100+, or too small, and I was put off Basil ones by the hook mechanism not looking secure enough.
Ended up ordering these ones from a Dutch website through guesswork and Google translate, but they arrived safe and sound :D!

Haha! Yeah i was slightly nervous as to just what was going to turn up at my office...
Overall, I'm really pleased with them - they're well made and attach nice and securely (though conversely taking them on and off the bike is a bit of hassle), and they've got some sensible refective piping on the back.
I'm going home (west Highlands) over the Easter break and taking the bike with me, so that'll be the real test of them.

First "proper" ride on my fully pimped Orbit which now includes bits that don't come loose while I'm riding it. Had a wonderful time gliding effortlessly along and got to try my full range of gears on smooth tarmac with a tailwind. **** yeah.

Lovely ride down to M&S in Morningside for some treats this evening, after picking my bike up from her ever-postponed six week service. Gears are lovely and smooth now, and I took a nice rambling detour on my way back home :).
