Am really finding it hard to believe it though.
The tall whooshy thing is badly out of place, but the rest!!

Just walked through it. They've maintained the cycle lane but that will be impassable when there are actual people there getting glue-wine etc.
Aparently there is some sort of ice wonderland happening. Assuming they mean crystal meth wonderland where kids can cook up their own batch of crystal high. Shocking what the council allow on the streets.

Is it passable using non-standard bikes? Does it have right-angled turns?

I didn't make it all the way down. It's reasonably wide all the bits I did see and I didn't come across any right angled turns. However they do have the "Anti terror concrete plus ratchet strap system" which was employed in August. Not sure how much of that was about. Will have a look when I go out for my lunch.

The turn in from Charlotte Square would be a big tight - narrow gap in the barriers right next to the footway, rather than on the line one would usually take from the right-turn filter box. Now that the giant hemispherical jellyfish has an opening in the lower mantle there are no longer any kerbs to be bumped over heading eastwards - haven't tried it westbound yet.

Heading Westwards there is a bit of a sharp left to get back across to the right (left) side of the road to make a left turn. But I didn't struggle on the Helios.

@iwrats, on the Emotionometer the 'chief is saying between ticked off and fuming? (See spotted thread).
Every year they dog breakfast this. I was on George street last week and all was fine and I did wonder when is this going to be messed up for the festival?
Elsewhere e.g. poP young sal hinchcliffe is pointing out George Sq in the Weegee Land is practising for total traffic freeness all year around.

I thought eastbound was fine at ~9.30PM though no traffic (foot or vehicle) so plain sailing. I assume the other direction is a bit of a dog's dinner.

@gembo, I see we both believe comparing CEC cycle infrastructure to dog meals is appropriate but we can't agree whether morning or evening meals are best?

Also the barriers closing the easternmost bit of George St westbound at Hanover St have been removed? (the signage and half barrier at St Andrew Sq are still in place). I can't understand why they would do this when rest of the street is closed?
Also it's unclear whether the Hanover St lights have been re-reprogrammed to give a green phase to the newly 'open' section, so expect a spate of vehicle RLJing if not (that's what I did after briefly mulling the situation on the bike last night)

As I vaguely half-recall it, this section being closed in that direction was something nebulously tenuously connected-ish to the Leith Street closure - possibly to stop people flocking to Hanover Street and gumming it up for buses as well as gumming up the South St David St junction.

Went along West-bound this morning, only a taxi completely blocking the entry @ Hanover St and a van blocking the exit at Fredrick, so fairly standard quality by CEC.

I went the full length of George Street last night, East to West and can confirm that the lights are working again here. I presume they're back to their normal clockwise green light phasing, but wasn't paying enough attention to say for sure.Posted 5 years ago # -

Yep, I asked about this on Twitter at the time and was told (By @edintravel, I think) that it's to allow more green light time to traffic going along Queen Street, to deal with the increased traffic flow from Leith Street being closed. I don't fully understand it, but it makes sort-of sense, I guess...Posted 5 years ago # -
