What a way to start my morning, kneeling in the rain beeped by cars only to find out how small a world it is...
Let me know when you want your bike back.
I'm setting off from work shortly and will be passing there (on the Water of Leith) in about 20 minutes or so. If you're there I'll nip along.
Obviously I've not had time to put it on the rack and sort it.

@Puzzle - well I believe you have to have some major injury - you know - lose a limb, lung, kidney, eye before you're allowed a day off
Wonder what the cops did with the driver, she was in tears as she was telling someone on the phone what had happened.
From a driver perspective I can imagine trying to get out of that junction to turn right nigh impossible at rush hour, lights needed methinks?Posted 11 years ago # -

Not very nice turning into Murrayfield Av either as there is a tendancy for vehicles in the bus lane to drive quite fast.

Hi @DaveS wonderful to know you are doing ok. Thought you may be bruised and I'd advise a bath or two over the next few days and a bit of pain relief but hopefully you'll be back enjoying the cycling you must love so much (to come out in this weather) very soon :) glad to hear its being worked on and look forward to seeing the improvements. Absolutely echo the welcome to the forum and relief that you're ok, DaveS. I had what sounds like a similar accident to yours only 10 days ago in very similar weather conditions so have every sympathy for you. Kudos for your return to work!

A huge well done to those who stopped and helped. I can't tell you how much the kindness of strangers is appreciated by the injured and their loved ones after something like this happens, even if it's simply glaring at idiot motorists who think rubbernecking or making rash manoeuvres is appropriate.

Delighted to hear of a positive outcome. Never cease to wonder at the arrogance/stupidity of some drivers who seem to suffer from a bit of a God complex when it comes to making room (not) for their fellow road users ...including, it would seem, injured road users lying on the highway. Thankfully all's well that ends etc,etc.

DaveS - glad you are ok, hope you jump back on quickly.
That road should be ok, very wide, plenty room for everyone - but (junction SMIDSYs aside) cars all drive far too fast, and dont allow for the conditions - I sometimes wish they had to spend a day with the motoring equivalent of rim brakes in the wet.
(or even better, a week or so commuting by bike)

there is also a proposal of a pint in the Diggers* after the Andrew Cyclist concert tomorrow night.
*there are a number of other nice pubs slightly closer as well.

yes, the Ettrick is convenient but lacks much character. with the Golden rule, Coley, and Diggers around the other corner, we are spoiled for good range of beer and decent environment in which to quaff it.

Appeared to be another accident at that junction this morning, this time two cars. They were driving onto the pavement as I cycled past.

There's occasions when I regret not living in Edinburgh.
Hope you don't mind me tacking this on to this thread but it's vaguely related to the original topic and the new off topic of POP and Andrew. Various things collided in my head as I was pooling to the nursery with my daughter this morning: the question on another thread about whether there's a place we collate incidents, the account of yesterday's crash, MeepMeep's incident etc. I wondered if there was mileage in POP making either little films recording these incidents - where they were, what happened, the impact on the cyclist - or collating a few of them into a longer film that could be used for longer term campaigning. Easy to shoot on an SLR or camcorder and I'm pretty sure I could get some help with editing to make it all look superb.

Would be great to meet some of you for a dink at some point although with crazy shifts a little notice would be needed (presuming I am invited!) :D as I'm sure others will too (passes need time to be issued!)
I am almost positive I saw @DaveS on his bike this morning! I got to THE junction at almost the same time and have to say made a point to double check the junction and saw a cyclist riding up, I waited and as he passed I'm positive it was him. Given DaveS would be heading in from/out to Ratho pre/apres pub I reckon somewhere further West for this one.
Yes the Golden Rule has decent beer, as does the Diggers (and nice wee back rooms), the Caley while having decent beer is beaten by the Diggers imho by the fact Caley plays music that is just on the edge of loud for conversation, Diggers is quiet. Rule plays music too I think but the downstairs bar is comfy and has a couple of big tables with leather couches (last time I was in anyway) that would fit plenty people in.
If some people make it tonight that's great, I just don't think it will be many, I for one can't make it now.Posted 11 years ago # -
@Daves Glad to hear you are ok! We would be really glad to speak to you about this and to highlight the fact that there has been another rush hour collision this week following on from MeepMeep's last week.
Would you get in touch? If you would rather not then just email to say that - but we would be happy to interview any cyclists who have any knocks and would be happy to map the incidents we are told about... We can also do video, audio and photos...or we are happy to receive the same.

re videos - if we could get some good ones that people might actually watch, would be good to show that people who have accidents are just normal folk. put a face on the accidents, so to speak.
