    I got the bus to and from Fife last week and it went over the Queensferry rather than FRB. I don't know why. I thought the old bridge was now for buses?

    Only buses which stop at Echline are using the old bridge, I don't think the slip roads are configured for anything else yet.

    There's a simple answer to QC congestion: bring back tolls.

    I was going to say she couldn't be any more incompetent than Messrs May, Johnson, Fox, Gove et al. However, we don't actually know: she might be even worse! Difficult to envisage I know, but still possible...

    I could foresee a Thatcher style climbing into a tank with Union flag fluttering. Followed swiftly by an increase in military spending.

    crowriver, surely that's part of Dartfordisation. It's a catch-22 they shouldn't open the 2nd bridge without tolls but they don't need the second bridge if there is tolls.

    Dartford has at least 3 lanes of motorway heading to and from it in both directions which is quite a hideous thought either side of the Forth.

    Well of course Ms May's election pledge was to scrap tolls on Severn crossings. Apparently it's a "tax on Wales": where have we heard that rhetoric before? (Keith Brown I'm looking at you). One year left, tolls abolished from end of 2018.

    No, reduced by a tenth - so 4½ days rather than 5.

    Although Oxford Dictionaries allow that the modern usage to mean kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of or drastically reduce the strength or effectiveness of is now "part of standard English". So the inherent sense of ten-ness in the etymology of the word is now effectively lost. However, neither of the above senses make the word particularly appropriate in the place that it appears in the article. So it's my opinion that, whether looking at it from a classical or a modern perspective, the journalist was mistaken to use it.

    It would be quite amusing if they cannot resolve the issue and traffic has to remain at 50mph in perpetuity. Not to mention safer for the drivers and their passengers.

    good job they didnt dismantle the old bridge - i suspect there has been a major cock up and the reason we are not at 70 now is because behind the scenes stakeholders have been squabbling about who pays for what!

    so we'll get some company on the FRB on the rides then rather than the single 747 bus ;-)

    Fundamentally what I heard was that they weren't ready to open at the end of August, but our glorious leaders had promised; so there was a big of a rush job at the end...

    obviously this was managed to coincide with finishing the new FRB layout on the north side

    they will be quite eager to test out the various traffic flow permutations newly available

    fortunately i am now back in prussia for a couple of weeks

    hopefully they'll have got it all out of their system before my return

    well paddy, like we've feared all along, i do wonder when they'll elect to traffic manage the approach to both bridges based on 'current congestion conditions'

    i'm sure that the traffic/transport scotland bods would just LUV to have that filter available to them in response to "real-time" conditions

    but as sensible folks here have already observed, it just shoves the bottlenecks further along the pipe

    after 3 days of driving in this week, i've noticed that joining at Junction 1 heading south and awful lot of people are leaving (or join with me and then leave) the m90 at inverkeithing/ferrytoll - only to go straight across the roundabout and back on the M90 further up so as to avoid the 2 or 3 mins delay while still on the M90...
    the same is true coming back on the south side on the a904 junction.

    Yep, and it's exactly that behaviour that leads to flow breakdown, and the very queuing itself, as people brake/accelerate due to merging...

    Lawrence Shackman from the Forth Replacement Crossing Team says they had a recent meeting with bus companies and that the companies had a "positive outlook"

    He adds: "We are working with Fife council and Transport Scotland and have launched a marketing campaign 'Fife in the fast lane'".

    "We are trying to promote park and ride sites even further.

    "We also have smart cards and smart tickets, to show that it is easier to buy tickets."

    OK

    SO they’ve been planning this for X years and are just about trying to think about maybe getting something done with public transport(?)

    i do often wonder if they took all the road money over the past 10 years and tram money etc, and pumped it into covering certain existing roads with a weatherproof arch shutting them to cars and have free e-bike stations with carry-baskets all over the city , if it would have cost more?
    also taking into account health benefits , NHS cost savings, and wear and tear of road repair....

    A marketing campaign will be a useless waste of money. No one will switch from car to bus because of a few adverts.

    What is needed is road-user-charging to cross the bridge. That will make busses more competitive and attractive to many.
