I would suspect is “volunteering” in the public sector sense of the word with full pay for the word done

I always think it is insincere when the term volunteering is used in this sense, the public perception is that volunteers are giving own their own time not paid.

@CyclingEdin cycle/walking paths are included in routes to keep clear, all integrated with road network based on priority status.

Lots of ice but no grit in evidence this morning on the NEPN. Maybe volunteers only work weekends?

Followed a gritter up Leith Walk this morning. Hadn't ever noticed in the past that they don't stop gritting when they stop moving. It leaves little "droppings" at the red lights.

    Off-road cycleway gritting
Cycleway Priority 1 - these routes will be the first to receive treatment whenever weather conditions dictate, and will be pre-treated where possible, when frost, snow or ice is forecast. Areas treated include

    Middle Meadow Walk
    Leamington Walk in Bruntsfield Links
Innocent Railway Path, between St Leonards Lane and The Jewel at ASDA
sections of the Caledonian Cycle Track, North Edinburgh Cycle Network.
All other parts of the Council's off road cycleway network are considered by the Neighbourhood Teams and prioritised with all other competing winter treatment demands.

Close one for me on Caroline Terrace earlier. All the roads in the vicinty were fine apart from there which was like a sheet of glass. Had to get off and push the bike on the pavement - pavement parkers really are a nuisance :(.

"pavement parkers really are a nuisance".

So is getting into your car and discovering your windscreen wipers are up (hypothetically). Although in this weather you'll probably have noticed it beforehand.

No grit on the Innocent either or the new segregated approach to it. Funnily enough, I got the council newsletter email thingy that described how they were ready for winter and monitoring road and pavement conditions, it sounded really promising.

The paths through and the pavements on roads bordering Harrison Park/Polwarth Terrace were a disgrace IMO this morning. My little one took a fall on some black ice, I'm afraid to say.

TRANSPORT convener Lesley Macinnes has warned it is unrealistic to expect all roads in the Capital to be gritted when snow hits again.

She spoke out after the council unanimously agreed to order a review of the way streets and pavements are prioritised for treatment following claims that large swathes of the city were left ungritted during the recent cold snap.

The roads long Dalmahoy and extension were gritted last night so were fine this morning. In Livingston the council had the mini traktor out this morning doing the paths . The last time it snowed gritting was done too late (or not at all) so the snow had frozen hopefully this time wont be any snow to freeze when goes sub-zero later on.

Hours clocked cleaning graffiti, redecorating day centres or gritting pathways are hours not spent behind bars for offenders serving time in the community instead of in prison.

Oh dear. Saw that tractor getting to work yesterday about four and was impressed by the foresight.
