Aye, we watched this on the iPlayer and Colleen's achievement was super impressive, as we remarked after the programme. 25 miles! That's wider than the English Channel, which used to be a much hyped swim. And that tide she faced: brutal. All in a swimsuit, skull cap and barrier cream. Wow.
This from the Beeb article says it all: "Ms Blair was 20 when she swam the English Channel and she was the first person to swim the Pentland Firth, from Orkney to the mainland."
Pentland Firth, for goodness' sake! That's insane.

Anyone here doing this this year? I'm tempted. Do people tend to get the train down at some point during the day?

I could be tempted. I know of at least one person who is considering cycling down to the start.

The train is one option, although you will probably now find that cycle spaces are as rare as proverbial hens teeth on the day.
There are various options for getting a bike down including Murray Moves (forum member) and the Scout Bike bus. Although again don't leave it too late to book.
I rode it last year with gembo and was luck enough to buy someone's train tickets off them when they realised they couldn't attend. Sadly I'm not able to make it this year.

Yes, there was some talk about it here.
Looked like @sheeptoucher is thinking about doing RttS. and @Greenroofer something crazy. As @CC.CC says, I am thinking about doing there-and-back but only if the weather is fine.
Just have read @acsimpson's report from the last year. Nice report and I am even more keen on doing it now!

Ah ha, thanks - I'll have a look over there.
And yes, it looks like all cycle spaces on the trains are reserved, so if I do go for it, it'll be a pootle down I think.

@acsimpson kindly gave me the other ticket. I made small donation to pop for it but he got nowt,
On our train down some lads just rocked up and bizarrely they were allowed on. Though there was much toing and froing and we were emphatic that we had the booking, which we did,
Also certain rondists in cycling gear whose bikes were maybe in the ronde van?
Thankfully the rondists then towed us all the way to Moffat in quick time despite neither of us being fit. AC even took a turn at the front. One rondist even went back for my back up light which was not a cheap light but I had gubbed it another time by not taking it off when I was turning the bike over to fix a p word.

If you look on the RttS social media accounts they have some offers to transport bikes to Carlisle by the Scouts and the like...

Would be fun to cycle down with other folks but I am almost certainly slower than any of you, so I am happy to make my way down alone.
I am thinking of taking similar route to HankChief & CC.CC via West Lothians but including a stop at the Apple Pie bakery.

Just dipped in and.....am I to understand that @HankChief proposes to ride a Burger Bike back from Carlisle over the Tub?
I have a horrible suspicion that I couldn't keep up on a normal bike.

Sadly I have to return the bike within 24hours so it'll 'just' be a BurgerBike Northbound...

@HankChief - What time are you planning to leave Carlisle? 7-ish (peak time), or earlier to get a head start?

I've just realised why they are keeping the Cramond foreshore station open at weekends. Hankchief needs to be able to dock on arrival.

As I am no longer able to get Sunday off at work, I won't be joining you guys for the RttS. But I am planning to do 'Ride with the Sun' taking advantage of the ridiculously long days.
I don't want to cycle through the night on my own so on Friday I am planning to set off from Edinburgh at early hours, have breakfast at the Apple Pie, continue to Carlisle and then head back home for tea (I hope). Not the same but I am quite excited about it nonetheless!

It's a one-off full carbon model with magnesium hubs, titanium spokes and Burrows Hyperbrakes front and rear.

The burger bike trip is off :(
A slight niggle in my knee has flared up drastically and I'm now the proud owner of a pair of crutches and some strong drugs.
I still have the 24hour hire ticket if anyone else wants a shot...

Commiserations @hankchief. Although I think my old war wound might've flared up on thinking about doing the whole 100 miles on a burger bike ;-)
