Thoughts on the Quality Bike Corridor

The most striking thing about the QBC - if it is supposed to be a demonstration of quality cycling infrastructure - is how far behind Edinburgh is in terms of mindset.
"So now it's getting redone so it adheres to the Best Practice in the rest of the city. And that 2.80 metre width is one way, of course."
At times like these I usually start looking at jobs in Denmark but I'm not sure the resulting degree of smugness is safe.

I just love this vehicle....
Every Sunday it's parked at the ASL on the QBC beside NMS.

The QBC was for, as far as I can make out, students and to make their commute from on faculty to another easier, and as we all know students all cycle! That said, sorry to say, the QBC has not impacted on motorists, car parking, or the lack of consideration by car drivers to cyclists. It has had little or no impact and made little or no difference at all. The only up is that the road surface has improved immeasurably but it remains to be seen how long that lasts, come the utilities workers, who invariably wreck whole sections!!

I noticed the repainted lines, but couldn't tell if they had actually moved. Have they?
People parking in the bike lane on the double yellows there was one of the most annoying things about my commute when I commuted that way. I once asked a parking inspector why they ignore it, but he didn't seem to understand my question - instead saying something to the effect of "the original design was better, but they changed it for some reason".

I would consider it to be a benifit of a different kind of butcher but whatever. This thing is hopeless.

Yesterday
Good to see that stretch resurfaced (finally)!!!
Shame about the ‘invisible when dark/wet’ chips.
No idea if there will be any physical lane dividers.
No surprise work not finished on time.

It's a shame they couldn't mark it as a mandatory cycle lane. It'll be clogged up with parking outside the yellow line time. Unlikely to be dividers if it's a single yellow line vs double?
I was ruminating on mandatory vs advisory lanes earlier this week when cycling to my dentist in Liberton, I don't think I've once actually been able to use the advisory lane on the A701 uphill as it's just parking for residents. They're really not worth the paint.

Why is it only single yellow there, it was previously double yellows. And there were dividers:

We can only hope its not finished (global shortage of yellow paint, surely?)

You're right there were, but it was painted double yellow then. Maybe a mix up between the existing TRO and the ETRO that added the dividers? Hopefully they'll update those single lines and add them...
