The Tarmac that was recently featured in 'spotted' sporting a yellow arrow, has now been dug up, rending it smewhat difficult to access the canal path/harrison park by the south-west most access point (ie nearest the canal). But soon there should be a dropped kerb!

Anyone want to come toast it with a bottle of bubbly when opened?

Will it be like launching a ship - smash bottle on no kerb??

Shall we open the betting on the number of millimetres of 'upstand'?

    This morning -

By lunchtime there was a kerb of about 12mm.

Imagine if that was the case every time people turned into a sidestreet...

    "Finished!"

Not quite - needs a double yellow. Or even better - a box junction.

In my case it needed an absence of silly person waiting in her car right in front of it, blocking all but ten inches of the dropped part. I pointedly skimmed round her to use said bit, because passive aggressiev stuff like that always works. In fact she's probably away buying a box of chocolates to say sorry, right now.

Yep - good tactic. I've been using it on the BT van parked on the dropped kerb at the back of Haymarket Yards for the past week.

They weren't there today! That showed 'em!

"Not quite - needs a double yellow"

    True.

But that would involve a Traffic Order...

Simple white I-bar can be added without a TO - and deters most parkers. Needs one at the bottom of the Harrison Park diagonal on Ogilvie Terrace.

@CyclingEdin spoke to the team. Due to where its located we can't put in double yellows or an I bar. ^G

  13. "Due to where its located..."

Surely that needs some clarification? Just what is it about that location? And what's the point in having a dropped kerb if it can't be used?

  24. Ah! No, I've just realised what's wrong with the location that means it can't have a line...

    It's in Edinburgh...

For those not on Twitter: I suggested the legend that is Bill Kazmaier. Kaz is not the one in red who hits himself in the face with a car.

I'm not sure how you can still do this chdot, I'd have long since given up with CEC. Even the little things seem like such a fight, years to get them to drop a kerb but its too much effort to put in a line to make the kerb dropping worth while, just a continuous string of stupidity.

    I know what you mean...

    Twitter is proving surprisingly effective.

I think recent (apparent) movement on Leith Walk (NOT just because of me/CCE) shows it can be worth the effort.

'Bigger pictures' - like 'Keith Brown' - are more intractable...

I was halfway through a blogpost today about how sad it is that silly things like dropped kerbs make us happy. Must finish it. Need pics though.

This is apparently the 'problem' -

The faint white lines indicate that this is the end of a ticketed parking place.

Though I suspect that most people who 'rest' there haven't paid.

So it's legal to park there BUT (as far as I know) as I-bars are not legally enforceable there shouldn't be any reason not to paint one(??)

Removing a parking space, of course, has legal implications.
