Many years ago when I worked in Barlinnie Prison I remember a prison officer who was of the non- drinking, ex-military vintage, explaining his credo to me as we were passing some time together in B Hall. He liked to rise at 5 am and then he had two whole hours of daylight before he had to be on shift at 7am. He used to go for a walk if the weather was fair.

This morning I woke about 5.30, wind was quite gentle, I should have gone for it then but I snoozed a little and ended up it on the A 70 abut 7.15 am. By this time it was blowing a gale. I was trying to tyre myself to see if when I returned to ravelrig hill I could climb it in the bottom her of a two ring chain set (I could but not comfortably all day like I will be doing in the alps, though ravelrig is steeper than alps)

The beauty of Balerno is you are in open country within minutes of leaving your doorstep. All was quiet on the Whang and I headed to harperig reservoir where I sheltered behind a wall and are a banana before turning back and enjoying the tail wind to Leyden road then the descent to Kirknewton and the back road to ravelrig, all the gorse is out now with the coconut smell getting quite heady.

Sun still shining so on with the chores after a brilliant start to my morning.

I left a note for the others but they are still not up
