Thanks to all of you who have already offered to help leaflet and flyer for POP in the next two weeks. Please let me know if you need copies of the handlebar flyers, or posters or leaflets.

I've started postering my usual routes, and the bikes near my work, but it's really crucial that we reach out to all parts of the city, so please when you're out and about, take some posters with you and pop them onto likely railings or poles at popular ASLs. Likewise, keep a few leaflets or handlebar flyers in your pockets to pop onto bikes, or hand out to people.

The 19th is on a four day weekend for Council schools and a lot of Edinburgh families will be out of town for the weekend, so it is really essential that we reach a wide audience -- if you can help by flyering bikes at ERI or along some of the off-road paths, even if they're off your usual route it would really be appreciated.

    Thanks everyone!

I've used most of the leaflets you gave me this morning. I also have a couple of hours to spare this Friday am, so could possibly do a bit of postering?

@recom - I kept running out - ended up printing B&W ones (don't know if you've got a place to do cheap printing though)? (can get them from the pop webpage)

I did the Haymarket bike racks again yesterday afternoon. I thought I had quite a lot more handlebar flyers, but it turns out that I have one page of flyers and some posters. I'm not sure I can use the posters, but I can probably do the Haymarket racks again sometime if I can get some more flyers - anyone want to swap?!!

I also found that cheap chalk will write on pavements too :-) I was spotted writing on the cycle path in Livingston by some children, who followed me round to the station but only plucked up the courage to ask me what I was doing just as the train arrived - fortunately I was able to give them a handlebar flyer before leaping onto the train!!

Cheap chalk can manage about one announcement per stick before getting to the finger-grating stage. I have a tub of fat pavement chalk if anyone wants a couple of sticks.

Thanks everyone! I have a stash of fat chalk that I am happy to share. Plus little plastic holder things that protect your fingers.

I've started on the handlebars in DSB bike shed - there is a (n official) poster up now, too.

SRD: Friday morning immediately post-school run would work for me, anywhere that suits between school and Geo Sq.

RJ: can do that. PY seems easiest? anyone else who wants to collect chalk, laminated posters, handlebar flyers, or leaflets all welcome to pop by as well.

RBS at the Gyle (not Gogarburn though) and a few racks on Castle Street done with handlebar fliers. Just handed in about twenty A5 posters to Decathlon, the fella who took them off me said he'd seen other posters up around town.

I know someone who has promised he will leaflet bikes at Gogarburn and put up some posters.

I have printed off some handle bar flyers and am happy to attach these to bikes at the cycle racks I use around town.

thanks CDM, Fimm, meep-meep, eddie and all the many others doing their small (or big) parts towards this. Much appreciated - and we know from last time that it works.

One of my favourite POP anecdotes is my wee girl giving a slightly older girl a leaflet in the meadows, with some help from uberuce - who then reported seeing that girl, with her parents, at POP!

I handlebar-flyered some of Edinburgh Park a couple of weeks ago: The gyle shopping centre racks (not many bikes there), buildings to the west of Lochside Crescent/Court, plus RBS at Redheughs Avenue (lots there) and the racks at the Scottish Prison Service. Couldn't find any racks at Sport Scotland! On the plus side, one of the offices along Loch Ross already had a poster up in their racks.

Still hoping to do more South Gyle-wards and haven't yet done Aegon to east of Lochside Crescent. I have some spare flyers if anyone wants to help out.

The other thing I have noticed is that there are no posters on the canal path between access at Lanark Rd and Cultins Rd (yet). Could be good area for chalking/postering if anyone suitably resourced is heading that way.

Thanks for all the fliers! Just done another 300 or so around the bottom of GS/Forum-bike-store/randomly. Have put up posters again in my building, but someone saw me putting them up who then went on a rant about how cyclists should pay 'road tax [sic]', and ranted about the normal stuff of RLJing/etc. I kind of got pretty angry in reply tbh: I guess having invested 2 hours flyering to be told that I was wrong was bound to cause a reaction! I'll calm myself with matlab :)

Anyway, just shows we need to campaign even harder.
I'm amazed at how many bikes there are around (noticed this since I started looking for them to flyer)...600 fliers doesn't go very far!

    Good luck all!

@lionfish yeah people are idiots.... RLJing and pavement cycling are a damned good reason NOT to spend money on cycling infrastructure.... sheesh. Anyhoo I've done loads of handlebars today. Commie /sick kids/ george street/ Bruntsfield

Good work recombodna! All over! Impressive. I've spoken to a fair few cyclists (as they're locking/unlocking) while doing it, I'd say they roughly divide into:
    15% already plan on going
20% have heard of it, want to go (but don't know the date, etc)
60% not heard of it, but enthusiastic
5% not so keen on it when it's explained
(non-scientific! sample size about 20 people. around Nicholson Street, GS, the Meadows and the canal).

I put up a couple of posters this morning on the canal - will be interested to see if they're still there this evening :)

@canal-people if reading: I'll take them down after the 19th!

@lionfish - that was about the same proportions (v. non scientific) as at the bike show. The 60% are the most rewarding. The 5% are ... odd, especially if actual cyclists.

Odd how familiar a few bikes I tagged today were even though I only saw them once last year - possibly the extreme similarity of locking-position helped.

@wingpig - I'm sure I must be tagging the same bike more than once: I just can't remember them all!

Cycling through the Meadows back to work just now I noticed:

    • a big PoP poster at the Argyle Place mega-junction
    • a PoP message chalked on MMW
    • a wee PoP poster on the fence opposite Sainsburys
    • a big PoP poster on our bike shed's official noticeboard. This is behind a locked glass door so PoP clearly has official approval!
    • a PoP handlebar flyer on all the bikes in the shed.

Just wanted to say well done!
