If someone could provide me with a bamboo pole and even a flag for the POP t-shirt vending bike I'd be very grateful...

The weekend bike, since it'll be the weekend.

" If someone could provide me with a bamboo pole..."
Please state the length required (<=16') and whether you want the leaves left on...

Ah SRD might have sorted me out with something. As you were...
Posted 11 years ago # -
Probably tandemming with Mrs crowriver as stoker.

I'll be on the eBike. SRD seems to think some CCEr's might want a shot afterwards! Form an orderly queue...

I'm not sure now because of the need to leave the bikes unattended. We may just swing around the parliament at the end of the parade and back home.

Can I inquire as to the cost of the PoP t-shirts? Not sure if I can get there before 3pm. Do you think they will be sold out by then?

I'm not sure now because of the need to leave the bikes unattended.
I won't be leaving my bike unattended in some gigantic scratchy heap of metal. I will cross the bridge when I get to it but if it means going leaving straight away then so be it.

I'm actually having similar thoughts, I get very nervous leaving my mtb locked any where, less so the fixed but the fixed gear would be a pain for going down the high street. Plus what Min says...

My concern is more that it is not going to be two bikes, it is going to be thousands. It might be possible that we'll get there and I will be entirely happy with the arrangements but I am really struggling to figure out what is going to be happening here and where all those bikes are going to be that won't create an even bigger hazard than just having them with us.
Sorry to sound like I am being a downer Most Excellent POP People, I don't mean to but these are just my thoughts.

@TwoTired - the t-shirts will be £10 each. Look out for the cargo bike with the Pop t-shirt flag
@everyone else - I do understand about the parking issue and we will do our best to ensure that the bikes are well looked after but my understanding was this was a non-negotiable element with the police if we were likely to have a crowd bigger than last year's. We thought it better to warn folk in advance rather than spring it on people on the day so they can bring a bike they're happy to park up.

+1 to Min's thoughts. I'm also not enamoured at the thought if I'm early and my bike is stuffed down behind a further 3000+ bikes. I realise this isn't your fault but still an issue for me.

"but I can't see how 2 bikes locked to each other"
You only expecting two bikes?
There won't be 'parking' for everyone and it'll be too much hassle for most people to leave them 'somewhere'.
Hope the police don't intend to stop people going on the grass with bikes.

Just to reassure folk, this area is covered by CCTV. There will be police in attendance. There will be marshals in attendance. As long as you lock your bike it should be safe. Please don't let this put you off.
Ultimately, no-one can force you to leave your bike in the parking area if you want to hang on to it (and I do understand why) - but doing so is likely to lead to the area where the speeches are to be given becoming congested very quickly.
There is very limited on-street bike parking by dynamic earth and The Scotsman if you really feel the need to lock up to something near the end of the ride, but it is likely to be massively oversubscribed.

Suppose we could exercise our legal right to congregate... on Holyrood Gait.

Its ok. I'll live with out hearing more empty promises from the token politico... ;)
I'll have a picknick at the back with the other disruptive kids.Posted 11 years ago # -

I suspect that in The Netherlands or Denmark or Germany, folk turning up to an event like this would be pretty happy leaving their bike unattended, with little more than a wheel lock to protect it.
If I'm going to leave the helmet and the hi-viz then I think I will go for the euro style bike parking too.
There were quite a few unattended bikes last year I thought. Maybe the owners were nearish at hand.

Unattended. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I must have missed something here, so are we not allowed to take our bikes onto the grass?
Last year everyone just kind of did that, and parked their bike wherever, and it worked fine. Okay, a wee bit of paranoia, but generally I think everyone was caught up in the moment, and too happy to worry about anything.
It would be a shame if people disappeared straight away - one of the joys of last year was the fun, friendly, atmosphere at the end. People lounging about in the sun; kids (and big kids, ahem) paddling in the pools; it was all really rather pleasant.

We need to keep certain areas directly in front of the speakers clear but I think it'll organically work itself out. You can have your bikes on the grass. Please don't NOT COME because this might be an issue I beg you!!!!
There is loads of space down there. I think we'll be ok.
The Roads will be closed remember and there is plenty of space to congregate and chat. Look forward to seeing you and remember we have many marshalls there to avoid anyone walking off with a locked bike. We have many marshalls.
Bring a lock lock your bike to itself and lay it somewhere with some friuends bikes if you want or hang and chat with everyone else. The weather looks okish now!

I'm going to help out at the Spokes stall in Middle Meadow Walk, going with them wherever they go, and I'm bringing the best thing I have which is a recumbent wind-shielded tricycle (blue). I don't feel a need to decorate it, I must admit. The only downside of taking it is that it's very low to the ground (about five centimetres) so it won't easily go over the grass without the chain being all messed-up.
There won't be many recumbent trikes there, I bet, so give me a wave if you see me; it would be nice to meet some forumites in person.Posted 11 years ago # -
I'be been mostly offline over the last few weeks - any plans to meet up? (well other than the general get together of 3000+ riders).
I'll be on the blue ridgeback commuter, dressed up with a carradice, filled with a lock and food (if I have time to get to the supermarket after getting home)

Might end up bringing husband's bike as Deliah had develoPed an interesting problem that I'm not sure if I know how to fix.

"I'm not sure if I know how to fix"
'We' do.
What's the problem?

"Unattended. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means"
Twice in one post. What does it mean?
Posted 11 years ago # -
It means left alone to form attachments with previously unmet other machines.
