You'd know it if you saw it.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

Was it a combination lock?
I'm only asking as my back gate opens onto the lane near the pool. There was a discarded combination lock there yesterday. It had been cut through with some croppers, by the look of it.
If it's not yours, perhaps someone else had sonmething stolen.
I've kept it in case the polis want it for fingerprinting, DNA, etc!
Coxy, have you contacted ERC via their web page? It may hevlp Police wih tracing the thief's route away from the pool and speed up CCTV pics of the offender as they made their way away from the pool.
I've sent an message to 'General Enquiries' via the web form.
If anyone knows someone appropriate in ERC, let me know or point them in this direction.
Noted and tweeted
@Coxy - sorry it's not my bike (fortunately for me!) so not sure what sort of lock. I can pass your comment on to ERC
By coincidence a 'brand new' Cervelo P2 has just appeared for sale on Gumtree, location Edinburgh City Centre. Judging from photo not the same bike, but I suppose it's not impossible to swap components.
Well spotted crowriver. It looks like a different wheelset, and the extensions are mounted over, rather than under the bar assembly, but I've posted it on the ERC forum just in case.
Now, I'm not suggesting it's the stolen bike but that's astonishingly bad timing for the seller. Wonder how often P2s get sold on Gumtree in Edinburgh?
What better way to make the bike appear to have only done 10 miles than to quickly stick a new wheelset and brake pads on it?
I think I'd be asking to see original receipts...
I'd be asking to inspect the bike in person and check the frame number.
The chainset on the Gumtree bike looks different, too. It could be an awful coincidence, but Gumtree? For a bike like that?
Gumtree? For a bike like that?
That's what I thought.
Seller has only been posting on Gumtree since July 2013!!
Sounds well dodgy
Do you get high end bike thief's with enough know how to swap over with a brand new (presumably stolen) Ultegra crankset, and know the value of that type of bike? I would be more wary if it was on sale for £400.
I would want receipts though. But that paint job? I'm not sure that's the paint job of a 2012 P2, unless it's been in the shop for a couple of years (which is of course highly possible)...
Seems odd that a thief would be canny enough to swap out the crankset and bars, yet daft enough to put it on Gumtree in the victim's home town the next day.
As I said In a different post, a polis told me at bike breakfast that the otherwise brilliant bike mechanic courses offered as alternative education eg RUTS have taught bicycle thieves how to strip components.
I would pose as a buyer and check the serial number with a couple of big pals
I can confirm the gumtreed P2 isn't the stolen frame. I should have said my stolen frame was a 51cm. I thought it worth checking out anyway and this was very much a 58cm (crikey that is big!). I'd also happily vouch this is a legit seller having met and chatted to him. Not to say you shouldn't still ask for receipts etc. Unfortunately my hunt goes on and even the police are struggling to get Edinburgh Leisure to hand over their CCTV . . . every day that passes is probably more likely to have been stripped and passed on. Porty Prom is a real bike theft black spot from all the feed back I've had. Having recovered the lock (thanks again Neil) it is obvious they roam with bolt cutters whether day or night/ quiet or busy and just take their chances.

Somewhere else for plain clothes police to patrol on bikes!

@CyclingEdin @Ed_Leisure @EdinburghPolice Will check with manager of Portobello pool t'row. We would provide any CCTV detail if we had it.

Sounds like someone hasn't been bothering to put the tape in the CCTV or switch it on and has now been caught out!
I think it sounds more like an old defunct camera rather than a caught out bother deficit, but time'll tell maybe.
Think the problem is you need to go to a central Ed Leisure IT department and the police just get told there is no-one available who knows what to do! Have to say though the manager at Porty Baths on Sunday when the incident happened couldn't get rid of us fast enough - he told the police he didn't know the number to call for the central IT dept so there was nothing he could do. Luckily the receptionist was much more helpful!
@alistairsmith that is appalling. hope you lodge formal complaint.
On the subject of bike theft, a couple of boys were caught in the supposedly secure University bike shed in Potterrow last night, so be careful if you use that, use a hefty strong lock.
(I say "caught", but "discovered" would be more like it as apparently they got away.)
Had an update from the police today - they finally got hold of someone at Ed Leisure that would help and they will download the footage from Porty later this afternoon . . . think the PC made his feelings known to Ed Leisure on their lack of helpfulness! Probably missed the window of opportunity now unfortunately though.
Seems to be a lack of clarity on 'process' between police and Ed Leisure staff.
Hope things will be easier in future.
Apparently there was an attempt (presumably unrelated) at Commie Pool on Monday.
Thief on car roof but scared off by Pool staff.
Bike returned!! Not sure how to tag this as resolved? Thanks for everyone for keeping an eye out. Can't go into details at moment as police still following some things up. Main lesson is Porty Prom is not a safe place to leave a decent bike, even if locked up. Bike needs some TLC but hoping nothing structural.
Let me be the first to say "hurrah!".
I started the thread so have set it to resolved. Hope you get the bike back on the road without too many issues.
That's great news
