Time at Holyrood on Monday will only be 5/10 minutes. Presence is all that is required. Perhaps bring a few flowers.

Kim is off to bikestation and will enquire about further frames. I suggested at the least a childs bike would have maximum impact.

I'm free until the evening on Sunday. Give me a paint brush and point me at a bike.

Allebong: "If it's a bright and sunny day trying to get blurred movement/ghost effect can be a challenge without filters to reduce the amount of light going into the camera."

I've a few 58mm-thread ND filters and a reasonably mobile tripod so reckon I can capture something. Happy to lend filters if others have same thread and would like.

As it stands, I need to be in the office before 8am on Monday but it's important to me that I'm present for this. I'll explore the possibility of moving the early morning meeting culprits.

Layered not-massively-long exposures can be used in place of a single massively-long exposure if you don't have a big fat ND filter. I've a chunk of near-opaque welding glass I'll try and fish out and practise with. I can probably get there for the installation and can do some picture-taking through the normal channels.

I'm not available this weekend, but will be there on Monday, and if a second trailer is needed to transport ghosts, I'll bring that too.

Cool, that's at least 3 trailers including mine.

I think route will be from mine (start of MMW at Melville Drive), up George IV bridge, down High street directly to Scottish parliament. I.E. PoP route.

However people welcome to just join at Parliament as convenient.

Unfortunately we won't be able to get any bikes from Bikestation in time as the relevant person not available. Does anyone have a scrapper at all, if it was a small or childs bike that might be even better.

    Could collect.

There is almost always a bike or several at Sighthill recycling centre.

If anyone's passing the wee bit of path which goes between the Jewel and Fort Kinnaird there's often a dumped child's bike in the long grass on the opposite side of the path to Asda. Otherwise the wee burn beside the Innocent at Bingham oft sports discarded trikes.

Or, if anyone spies a bike in a rack or their stairwell that is obviously abandoned and beyond salvage (e.g. broken frame, rusted solid, pringled wheels, etc.), it could be put to a better use...

there's a raleigh pioneer* outside my work that is tied on with a cable lock that's been cut through at some time. been there for months. good tyres and frame looks in decent nick too

    * pretty sure that's what it says on frame, but looks like a roadbike with drops to me, which is not what comes up on google.

@Wingpig: Have done plenty with welding glass myself and it's a real challenge to get right. If it's shade 10 that's something like 13 stops of ND and you end up needing a 30 second exposure even in blinding daylight. Not to mention how badly it affects the colour balance - shooting RAW is mandatory.

I have a rather rusty and tired girl's (24" wheels) bike in the shed. Rescued from the street, leaning by a bin. I was pondering fixing it up or donating to Bike Station. Could make a ghost bike, but not much time to 'prep' it due to holiday child wrangling duties. If anyone wants to pick it up, let me know.

Last few times I was on the Restalrig railway path there was a rusty abandoned ladies bike down there in the grass at the side of the path. Also there has been a ladies hybrid with pringled rear wheel locked to the Filmhouse railings for months. Pity because otherwise in decent nick. Dunno if it's still there...

I think we call them step through frames rather than ladies bike these days.

On the other hand I've seen what Victoria Pendleton has her name on…

A ladies bike need-not-be step through though!

Crowriver I could do a pickup this evening if I bring the trailer?

Just thinking how complete does a ghost bike have to be? This is what I had in mind.

Can "parliament" actually remove a ghost bike, provided it is parked on a cycle rack/railing?

Basically, they would be stealing it - surely they can't just do that? It has to have been abandoned for some time before they can remove it? (I think it is 2 weeks for cars).

Probably not but what's to stop them mumbling about "health and safety" or "security risk"? To be honest if they notice it then I think we've achieved something. I'm half minded that not 1 member or employee of the parliament will see it as they go straight in the side door and the "important" politicians i.e. cabinet members will be in the ministerial chauffeur car.

Evening News doing a piece on Monday with Douglas Brown's family and will also include this (family reported to be keen on idea).

They will photograph the bike on Sunday and then be at Holyrood on Monday also. Edinburgh Reporter also keen and will send someone Monday.

I've said 8AM at Holyrood as I was on the spot on the phone! But I've also said it will be a 10 minute thing.

Secured an old bike from my uncle, where should I bring it? It's currently in the roseburn area, and not in a rideable condition.

@Zenfrozt - assuming that's the email I've seen! I could collect on Sunday morning on my trailer? Then it could be painted on Sunday at mine if you're available?

Evening News coming for quick photoshop at mine (Marchmont area) at 10AM so can fit it around that.

Just catching up now after seeing Kaputnik fresh from painting I reckon.

The ghost bike idea is good and not been so exposed here as elswhere. Idea of 8 bikes would have been great but know there's been a big effort to have got to this stage.
I'm on holiday next week but around tomorrow (Sat) if any cardboard is needed. Trailers you seem to have sorted.
As they say in ad land this is a 'campaignable' idea - particularly when we look at stats.

There is sad news of the fire on south clark st. There's now a skip with lots of bike wheels. It could potentially be used for missing parts for a ghost bike.

Very impressed at how quickly you guys are pulling this together. Unfortunately I'm fully booked this weekend but I will show up on Monday morning - somebody shout if they need help moving stuff around before hand.

Looking ahead a bit I think we should take the ghost bikes back after a couple of days. To much effort will have gone into them just to have them scrapped and the sad fact is that we will need them +1 again within a few months.

This turns it into more of a movement. Soon after each fatality a silent peloton of bikes appears outside Parliament and sits there accusingly.

I can volunteer shed space for 3 or 4 but I'm a bit out in the sticks so transport will take a bit of sorting.
