I *should* be there but events may transpire which prevent it.

Assuming I materialise I will be bringing the DSLR for some general shots. I also have a camera that can do timelapse photography which I would be prepared to set up and guard throughout the setting up of the bikes. I would be happy to stay for maybe 45 mins with the camera recording people stopping to look at it etc. It will end up looking something like this:

Sadly the camera in question now has severe scratches on the lens and can have real trouble with lens flare/artifacts. I've actually ordered a replacement camera last week and was expecting it today but no sign of it :( That said it still works and it's not catastrophic, especially by the time the video is downscaled for upload.

We can always retain keys/combinations of ghostbike locks and move them around...

In theory we have 2 weeks at each location before council can take boltcroppers to them.

Clue me up sometime - I do have a 2-bike trailer for the Brompton, although it does need a bit of fixing up if it gets a heavy load due to minor design weakness.

Wallpaper paste is going to work on the tombstone to affix the design, but first attempt wasn't great. Try again in the morning. Luckily Homebase opens at 9 to stock up on paste (ran out tonight)

Someone's been busy over the weekend -

To be 'unveiled' at Holyrood (by the ponds) at 8:00 Monday.

    All welcome.

It's looking much better now, as it dried the paper has tightened up and bubbles receded. Just doing the sprayvarnish now to try a bit of weatherproofing. The screweads are also painted over.

I'll bring the 84 litre jobbie on the trailer. Either the tombstone can go in that or, if wheels are taken off, the bike. Plan B is the box doesn't work and I leave it at Castle Kapp until the evening.

In my limited experience these simple trailer-affixing jobs can take far longer than you'd think, so I'd suggest I arrive no later than 7.20 at yours.

There was something about meeting up on MMW at 7:30 beforehand, is that still happening?

740-45ish if you're passing, at the Melville Drive end of MMW as we have to get to Holyrood at 8. Feel free to join or go directly there.

Will most likely go through the park to avoid High Street / G.IV. Bridge, etc.

Bruce - feel free to come earlier. There may be other bicycle carrying contrivances too, with your trailer and mine plus others we shall manage. At the very least you can pop the locks in your jobbie!

I'm sorry, I didn't make it in the end. I hope there were enough people for a decent photo - but in a way you'd already got the press interested, that article on the BBC is pretty good, good quotes.

Well done everyone! I had a work commitment this morning or I'd've made it along too.

Great event, hopefully the tombstone remains on MMW long enough for it to make some sort of impression.

Very quick video of my timelapse which turned out better than I expected:

I'll do a higher quality one later when I've finished sorting through all my photos.

Sorry to not have been involved in this one guys but I was away training for LEL and attending a wedding. What an amazing job you guys did and a fantastic effort to get this turned around so fast.

Hope that it stays there for a while.

Could it be worth laying some flowers down at the bike every few days. Or invite cyclists to stop by and leave a token/flowers or soemthing?

Basically make it a sort of pilgramage for our supporters to show their respect and pass on their sorrow.

Yes, we could take 1. I found the missing key then forgot to retrieve the lock for it.

Police had a sniff around, felt the tyres and left while STV were filming. They've made polite enquiries through "unofficial" channels just to check we aren't abandoning them in perpetuity (we're not).

I have some journalists (Herald / Aberdeen Evening Express) interested in photos if anyone can help with that?

I'm sorting through my photos just now. Are they looking for anything in particular or just general shots?

Perhaps a little tag on the bike - saying something like "This bike has not been abandoned. It will be moved on ...."

And then it comes back a day later.

Well done to everyone involved. A great effort and it's impressive to see something happen so spontaneously. Sorry I wasn't about to help. But if anyone is still needing an old U lock, I can provide one.

    A good quote:

Sara Dorman, one of the organisers of Pedal on Parliament, said:- “Only two months ago 4,000 people pedalled on the Scottish Parliament to ask for just £100 million a year to make Scotland’s roads safer for everyone – from 8 to 80 – to cycle. Sadly, this year we’ve seen the death of an eight-year-old and someone who’s almost 80. Unfortunately, the state of our roads means that deaths are inevitable as bikes are regularly brought into conflict with fast-moving traffic. Despite the government finding £3bn to dual the A9 – supposedly on safety grounds – they’ve told us there’s no money to increase investment into safer cycling and all they’ve suggested is an information campaign urging mutual respect, the sort of campaign which has failed over and over in the past. It seems that there’s no sum too large to make the roads safer for driving, but when it comes to the safety of people on bikes, even children, then even the smallest sum is begrudged. We hope that Scotland’s politicians will see these memorials and show real leadership in making cycling safer for everyone.”

Might be worth starting a separate thread for photos and videos. For now here's a couple from me. In low resolution as I'm cynical enough to not want to put the high quality ones online right away. Make of that what you will.

Ironically there was a cyclist injured on Liberton Brae about the same time as the Ghost Bike were starting their journey to Holyrood.
