Does anyone know the state of the Ballgreen Tram Path?

Going out with the running group at lunchtime.

    Skates or Running shoes?

    Left the bike at home.
Pavements between Tynecastle and Haymarket were 75% OK and 25% slippery to very slippery. Not much fun. I suspect the road was OK but I am glad I decided not to bother finding out, it would just have been too stressful. It looks like there was a wee fall of snow in Livingston last night; again I expect the main roads would have been cycleable but I'm happy to have made use of the minibus for once.

Yes, can confirm Black Ice also all around Craigleith Hill. Fell off twice without too much damage (painful elbow and broken lights). Even walking on the pavement is really difficult

Main roads not too bad as the traffic seems to have mushed up most of the ice. Side roads and smaller roads still lethal.

Roadworks at the crossroads of colinton and glenlockhart road mean there are tailbacks all the way back into colinton. Feel sorry for the people on the buses. Not that the majority of other traffic was .... SINGLE OCCUPANCY CARS. Quell Surprisé

Up by the Red Bridge at Crewtoll, path may have been treaded, if so the rain was washing it away and turning to ice, started to sound crunchy under the tyres. There were also sections where the ice hadn't been treated at all. Not much fun.

Took me five minutes longer than to walk the length of my street, jumped on the tram rather than injure my self trying to walk to work.

    Eventful commute.

Saw the aftermath of 2 minor collisions, 4 people falling over getting out of cars, 2 blue light ambulance and many people telling us it's slippy - i know that's why I have studs on...

The worse bit for us was crossing the road to school on foot havibg parked the bike in our usual spot. It's slightly uphill and took us 3 attempts due to sliding back to the start.

Avoid: Leith Links, Inverleith Park, Craigslist Hill AVE and the wee slope down from Lindsay Road...

Cripes, even the pavements in my street slippy. It's flat and by the stadium and the SRU is normally spreading grit and salt. They started late today. Was glad I brought a stick.

Yesterday evening I put the Ice Spiker on the front of my bike and my cleaty flat pedals. I like that I can pedal my bike, after a fashion, with the Yaktrax on. Sledgehammer and all that.

I wondered what was going on with the traffic. There's hardly ever a traffic jam down Oxgangs Road North, but today no-one was going anywhere all the way to the Craiglockhart junction. I was glad I wasn't in the torpedo today or I'd've been absolutely stuffed; as it was I was able to filter past hundreds of cars.

I bought my Vibram-lacking wife some YakTrax a couple of years ago, since which they have been in a cupboard. Hopefully this morning's skittery school/nursery drop-off will result in their retrieval.

Lidl often has similar anti-slip things for boots; haven't seen them yet this year though.

  20. Broomhouse/Carrick-knowe path felt fine this morning. Side Roads around roseburn were skating rinks. Main Roads from Porty-Roseburn were fine

Seemed ok in City Centre this morning. I'm hoping that things will be back to normal on the towpath for my commute tomorrow...

Had spikes on my tires this morning, but it seemed like most of the ice had melted this morning.

I came off of one of those a few years back and broke my shoulder. Take care.

I'm just back from Fife and there was some horrible sleet there.

Met Office has issued a new yellow warning for ice, valid from now until 1100 on Friday. Take care out there.

Yes, I have worn my spiky things on my boots for the first time today, having owned them for several years.
About to go for a run, can't decide if I will need them or not.

Very slippy underfoot this morning. Fresh sleet won't improve matters. If it's the same tonight I might get a bus back (first time in over a year!).

I went down on the shared path next to Morrison Crescent on the way home last night but it was done in a comical slow motion style so nothing was hurt or damaged.

Took the winter bike today and had no problems. By the time I had finished the nursery drop-off, the rain had melted much of the ice.

I forgot that I only had one 35mm-capable inner tube, so I have only half-equipped the geared bike with spikes so far.

Somehow I pulled/steered/shimmied out of what felt like a high speed fall last night on the urban arrow and remained upright. The [German supermarket] weather station in my garden was 2 degrees when I got my adrenaline-pumped self home. Which begs the question: on what now, if not the temperature, can one judge when it is safe to ride?

I know others up thread have apologised but it behoves me claim some share of the responsibility here. I made the decision for the first time in 3 years not to switch to studded tyres for the sake of the 2-3 days where we could actually get the weezettes to walk to school and a suspicion that the smaller winters width was contributing to broken spokes...
