The next train was not cancelled so after waiting an hour 10 minutes got the train to kirknewton. Was going to go for a pint to warm up but decided not to as did not want to take gloves on and off again. The long dalmahoy much busier than normal guessing its to do with the A71 work which has the benefit of all the ice broken.

Still treacherous on untreated pavements in the far western reaches of the city.

Out on sales pitch with people on trikes today. Did loop round by Innocent (icy in places) and Portobello back along Seafield.
Worst icy patch was on the zig zag ramp up to the toucan crossing on route to Lochend Park.
Was so slippy that trikes were losing traction on the uphill corners. Peds holding handrails.
Was out on two wheeled recliner this morn and all seemed fine. SRD heading other way on mucky NMW.
Tomorrow I may stay on road as meant to go to -4° tonight.

@bax San, how true. On towpath this morning near lift bridge pedestrian taking very primary line forcing me over towards the edge to avoid cycling too close which meant I went through a frozen puddle. And nearly lost it. I said the bad word that begins with F

Pavements are my problem as I have to return from bike shop via butchers where they call me silly. Unless one chain link does the trick til summer. Then road will be fine

@iwrats, most spiders do not drift with their thread? However I will now click on your link to see if it is the experiment which gave spiders different drugs - cocaine, marihuana etc and then observed the webs they made. Some three drifting for sure in the Mary Jane spiders.

So you just have to make sure you get bitten by the correct species of radioactive spider? Cross-reference abilities, maybe make a spreadsheet...

Tree successfully acquired. Canalpathwas fine, although could see where there were icy sections. Path from meggetland - chesser was icy, but the bottom 2/3s had been gritted. very bottom section torn up and muddy from the construction.

I see there's a yellow weather warning of ice for most of our area tonight and tomorrow morning. I was hoping to go out tomorrow and do my December century ride, but doesn't look as if it will be wise to be on the road first thing.

After the experiences of Wednesday night, I don't want to find myself on 25mm slick tyres on sheet ice formed by cold rain falling on colder ground. I could start later, but then I wouldn't finish until later. Decisions decisions...

BBC for balerno has temp set to rise in the night then lashing rain and strong south westerly in the morning. Before bprightenbg.

Could be the day for your Carlisle train then return? If Balerno forecast correct and more general. Balerno not famously a hotspot. The opposite in Thursday night snow storm, light snow at Juni green tiny blizzard at my house.

@gembo Tomorrow would be a good day for a record-smashing ride back from Carlisle. Unfortunately first train EDB-CAR on a Sunday is 0915, which means not getting on the road until after 1035, also tickets currently £29, which is outside my usual budget for that kind of thing.

An alternative (can you tell I've been looking at this kind of thing?) is to take the train to Tweedbank and then do a convoluted route west to Carnwath and get blown home. Again, the problem is the late departure of the first train and the late start on the road (although it would avoid the ice)

Oh yes, and I need to be up at 0430 on Monday to travel for work, so don't want to be back too late on Sunday...

@greenroofer, train to Ayr 19 pound. Come back the a70, Ayr Mossblown mauchline Sorn (lovely little village) Muirkirk then head to Douglas over the m74 up to carstairs then Carnwath and home. You might need to put in a loop or two around Arthur's seat to make the 100. I would come with you but the Ayr contingent all coming here for their early Xmas dinner.

First queen st train tomorrow? Surely before 9a.m?

Oh wait, you are up next day 4.30 a.m. Need to be another time.

It's very cold in my living room now. Mushroom stroganoff a-making: tempted to eat in the bath. Is that a thing people do?

“Is that a thing people do?”

Let’s pretend no-one has ever done it.

What’s it like to be a pioneer?

It's a thing people do when they're trying to determine how effective dilute mushroom stroganoff is as a cleansing aid.

@unhurt, how precise an eater are you? Can you get every grain of rice from plate to mouth and all sauce in the vicinity of your gob? If so might work. You are really using this new bath to great effect. However, if the odd grain slips out or sauce dribbles you will in a sense be bathing in your tea?

What bubble bath goes with mushroom stroganoff?
