I went with shorts this morning and as hunky dory. But warm with base layer on way home.

A yellow warning has been put in place by the nation’s weather authority for much of the country which lasts for the entirety of Christmas Day, disappointing those who were hoping for snowfall.

Bah. I'm heading to Balerno for Christmas dinner - I wanted to take the mountain bike for a wee in-the-dark adventure-ette round the reservoir afterwards. Suppose I still can, but chances of persuading the brother to come too if it's soggy are near zero.

“Bah”
You don’t believe weather forecasts, do you?
Posted 6 years ago # -
@chdot are you saying you don't believe in experts?!

I've got a cheap ticket for me + bike on the 0615 EDB-CAR on Saturday.
Weather is looking promising. I plan to come back via Moffat, Broughton, Biggar, Carnwath and the Lang Whang. I hope for some significant 'quickening' at Harperrig.

@unhurt - gembo will be along soon to explain and do the Sean Connery accent.

Uh oh...
(Hang on though now I'm sure that in the original film "the quickening" was the bit when Connor gets better after being gutted, Sean explains he's an immortal, and they go off running about the place (with a stag?). Maybe they retconned it to apply to the post-beheading lightshow?)

Does the leopard come with a warning sign?

I think there will be a variation on this -

The Quickening is a phenomenon in the Highlander films and television series. Beheading a character known as an "Immortal" produces a powerful energy release from their body called a "Quickening."
It says on Wiki, but I do not think so. Not even in the film. Sir Sean is talking to Christophe Lambert aboout the shenshation known as the Quickening and this would be tricky if his head was removed, one as he would struggle to hear but 2 as that is the ony way to kill an Immortal (decapitation). However, unhurt is possiby correct that the shenshation of rejuvenating afer any other potentially mortal blow would be The Quickening.
However on the Lang Whang, the Quickening occurs as you crest the hill at Harperrig with the wind at your back and freewheel home to Embra.

I'm back from my planned trip. The route back from Carlisle is less north-east than one might think, so I had a fierce headwind some of the way, but this was balanced by significant quickening at Harperrig. Strava says that I did the 2.5 miles from the top of the hill to the Kirknewton turn by the airfield in 6 minutes at an average speed of 24.4mph and I did not touch the pedals once. The only reason I started pedalling at the junction was that I was by then going a bit slow and it seemed rude to keep the cars who were waiting there waiting while I coasted past them.

Think you made a good choice cycling
exclusivelymostly north east today.I did a loop of Midlothian, going past Roslin, Rosslynlee, Carrington, Gladhouse, Temple, Tynehead, Pathhead, Dalkeith, and I found myself having to pedal when going downhill at times. A puncture in Pathhead meant I got cold, and that slowed me down on the way back. Crosswind on the 40mph bit of Drum St was so bad I walked the last mile home.

@greenroofer, that is significant quickening

The route back from Carlisle is less north-east than one might think,
It is a little known fact that Carlisle is actually East of Edinburgh (about the same longitude as Tranent) so it isn’t entirely surprising that a Westerly will give you a crosswindPosted 6 years ago # -
@stiltskin - I was caught out in a quiz by that.
