The cat has made it clear that he'll seek legal advice if I ever again allow such overnight weather.

Well, that was an invigorating commute. I am pretty sure that there was someone throwing buckets of water at me.

This morning was one of the commutes that definitely felt like a little adventure. And this horizontal rain was hurting my face. Some colleagues commented that my lips were blue at the 8am meeting (at which I arrived 10min late and still in wet cloths).

By 8:30 it was clear(ish) blue sky and no rain over Porty/Leith. Still a bit windy, but nowhere near as bad as I was expecting.

I lucked out with the rain last night too, stayed in the office 'til 5:45 and so only had the residual surface water (and inexplicably rain demented drivists) to deal with.

I've been off the bike for almost two weeks now, doctor's orders*, so can safely say that even today I missed my morning commute (easy to say from the comfort of a warm tram with a book to read!)

I was pelted in the face with what seemed like hail during the only section of my commute which was into the wind. It was grim. I cried a little.

top marks to Amey this morning for not closing FRB cycle lane despite gusts between 50-62 mph

a bit whippy round the towers sure, but not as bad as expected

made me wonder if there's a secondary windshield effect from the QC bridge going on

@rider73 maybe we should help you hold an exorcism?

I am working from home today. Hurrah! I am actually dressed too, which is an unusually advanced state for me when it's just me and the laptop.

Was ready to leave the house at 7:30. Checked outside and put it off for 45minutes! Cycled in in comparitively balmy weather with a bit of a breeze compared to the underwater scenes I would have witnessed leaving 45 mins earlier.

@unhurt - i'm willing to try anything - what do you suggest ?

@bax - perhaps the guy who closes the gates got blown off the bridge ! :-/

pffff so, getting the bike through the bottom floor communal flat door and down 2 steps this morning, (always a chore!) when i slipped on black ice or something like it on the top step,
...twisted my back in order to remain upright
    ...but dropped the bike
spent the next few mins fending off back spasms while trying to pick up the bike, eventually i dragged it back into the flat and up the stairs "gently" to go and get changed and into the car.
    will check the bike tonight.
will apologise to the neighbours about my swearing (!sorry!)

weather looking poor for riding tomorrow/sunday even if my back is better.

cannot seem to get much luck with bikes these days!

@rider73 sounds rather bad! Hope your back and bike are fine.

After seeing those still pretty wet roads and paths last night and forecast I opted for the lift this morning and Livingston is rather frosty indeed.

Towpath - frozen puddles near Wester Hailes 'S' bend and a few to the west of that too. Eyes peeled.

Colleague came off on frozen puddles near Kirkliston.

@rider73, hope your back is ok!

even some frost in puddles at leamingtn lift bridge, temp must have dropped lower than the 3 degrees forecast, I shall complain to Prince Charles (N.B. in mid seventies small degree of media fizz around Luggy fancying Sheila Ferguson from The Three Degrees)

sorry to hear of Rider 73's back.

As Hank sang - he's had a lot of luck but it's all been bad

Cripes, with all this ice news I feel brave for having ventured on the velo for the first time in 3 weeks. No ice on the well-wheeled inner city roads and cut-throughs.

    thanks for the well wishes!

the car was frozen also, but i had spray rather than a scraper , so it helped my back - which is now feeling a lot better, no sudden pains, just a single feeling of a muscle strain. will give it a good run tonight.

the car registered 0.5degrees in Dalgety Bay , but 3.5 degrees at crewe toll - so it warmed up as you got towards the City for sure.

Despite my new Christmas present of showing a temperature of 1 degree, I decided to take the canal from PY to the Office, I then didn't pay enought attention to my bike computer indicating -1.6C and had a back wheel sliding out, moment on the Wester Hailes 'S' bend, slightly surprised I managed to stay upright.

@gembo yesterday morning (~6:40) there were patches of frost on the towpath in Wester Hails and then the towpath west of Edinburgh was rather twinkly (but not slippy). MetOffice claimed 5C in Edinburgh at that time...

A stupidly windy day to go cycling. Definitely shouldn't have. But enjoyed it nonetheless

I've sat on the sofa all afternoon, looking out the window and wondering whether I could have gone cycling. Think I made the right choice.
