    @gembo Blerno, Fife?

Met Office app doesn't think it'll be icy till tomorrow evening.

Hmm, 1 degree from 10pm and then 0 degrees from 4am onwards. Studded tyres for me.

There shouldn't be much ice since there's no rain, but it just takes one frozen puddle where it isn't draining away properly...

Gritters out in the city centre. Pavements around the west end have been done.

Maybe they are just yearning for the Kingdom and this is how they express it?

BBC weather site also giving you hours of daylight from sun up to sun down. Nine hours now and getting longer by the day.

Ok ok 8 hrs 58 mins but will be nine by ramorra

I dislike the new BBC look. It fails compared to the old one for at least 2 reasons.
The temperatures are no longer coloured so at a glance you can't tell if it's freezing or not.
You can't zoom out on a mobile to see the entire day at once (I used the desktop view on my mobile previously so that I could do this)

@acsimpson temperatures of zero or below appear blue, one to three degrees appears green, and four degrees or higher appears as a brighter shade of green for me on the web and app. I'm not sure that I ever tried the zooming out thing.

In any case, I'm glad that they were correct about the weather this morning. No sign of frost or ice anywhere.

@acsimpson oh my, the BBC weather website just updated for me. I must have been on a cached copy previously. Agh. I see that there is also a new update for the app but now I'm tempted just to ignore it...

Damn, the app has auto-updated itself and the transparancy setting of the new widget doesn't seem to do anything so it now looks rubbish on my home screen.

Always just on the point of sleeting today. One or two drops.

My browser has lost the colours with the new layout and I don't use the app as I don't see the point of apps which present a website if I do not want anything else.

Whereas I am always just on the point of sleeping today.

Oh, the app does go mostly transparent just so long the transparancy is set less than the maximum (at which point it becomes completely opaque again). Odd. Even having spotted that, the new layout of the widget means that the text is now overlapping my analogue clock widget which is annoying. I'm going to try out the Android Time and Weather widget instead...

Thanks for the warning. I'll be leaving the app as it is for now.

Miniscule flakes in south east Edinburgh earlier. Quite pleasant.

At 0745 towpath mostly wet tarmac with occasional slushy patches between Meggetland and the bypass. No ice that I was aware of, even on the normally icy bits.

We had 2 inches of weird foam like snow in the Western burbs, but by the end of the road, nothing on the tarmac.

This did allow me to work out who is the intrepid cyclist who breaks trail out of our street.

@Greenroofer thanks! I read your update just after I had bought a roll and was heading to catch a bus. I decided to head home instead, change and cycle, and probably arrived at around the same time as I would have had I actually gone straight to catch a bus. The towpath was damp, but pretty much fine apart from some slush in Wester Hailes and on the Scott Russell Aqueduct. I plan to get away in daylight so I can get home again before anything freezes.

One of the council's mini snowplough/gritters was out and about our way this morning. At 10am it went down and then up our road, spreading grit on black (though wet) pavements. Even on our street where all the ground surfaces have a northerly aspect, the only place where snow was still lying (though very wet) was on people's lawns.

I mean, I appreciate the effort BUT where were they in January when we had at least three snowfalls which hung around getting compacted and frozen for more than 24 hours?

Forecast for temperatures of -5 celsius tonight. Will be still -4 at 8am. Maybe take the bus/train Wednesday morning folks? Or get the spiked tyres and long johns on.

Sun and light wind seems to be doing an ok job at drying out surfaces (at Heriot-Watt at least) so I may consider cycling again tomorrow if it's merely frosty, but drizzle onto cold surfaces may not bode well tomorrow afternoon although the temperature is supposed to rise...

Towpath dry and ice free between Meggetland and the bypass. One or two small frozen puddles and the occasional sparkly bit. Totally passable on normal bikes.
