Right now - main roads fine. Side roads slippy. Pavements & towpath treacherous.

Paths in Harrison park wellgritted and clear.

Blizzard on the bridge tonight. Headwind all the way. Needed to stop twice to clean my glasses. About an inch deeper when I left the bridge than when I joined.

Was really nice when blizzard stopped. Snow was deep enough to make studs silent.

Once I made it beyond slateford and all the cars parked in the cycle lane, particularly bad at that big church at Shandon it was a rather lovely cycle home, mquiet road, bit of a tail wind and returning to my ain folk from the soul less London

Pretty challenging conditions at 05:30 in West Edinburgh. Pristine inch or less of fresh snow. Light slush on the Glasgow Road which has been ridged up in the bus lane, which is rideable until it freezes up. You will then have the problem of a narrow ‘car lane’ to ride in Wouldn’t recommend anything other than studs at the moment.

Meanwhile Watson's is still open and have this travel advice

    Travel
Lothian buses are running a nearly full service, with only out of town buses affected currently. Live Service Updates.
Parents are asked to consider walking to school (if close) or the use of buses.

So carmageddon is fine when the weather is better...

Cheers @stiltskin. I'm going for it. Corstorphine to Roseburn path to Leith. Spikes are on.

dalgety bay was slippy and covered in snow -
once out towards the main roads though it was just a dusting of squeely snow and city seemed fine.
not sure if its going to ice up later though - with that horrible compacted snow ice stuff and then covered with more snow!

    take care everyone!

Towpath white and soft going between Meggetland and the bypass at 0745. Passable with care without spikes at present. Will be less passable if the soft snow compacts and freezes.

City roads a bit sludgey but passable. Need to take a pretty bold primary position at some points to avoid being squeezed into untreated areas.

Not feeling too confident about this evening, assuming the forecast is right. May have to abandon bike and walk.

Given the forecast, I've decided to work from home today

Getting from Corstorphine to Roseburn was relatively fine. Roads mainly clear.

Amazed to find that the path from Roseburn heading towards Craigleith had been cleared! It was amazing! But as I continued on it to Leith, it got progressively worse, and down at Leith was not cleared at all.

The south side of Ocean Terminal was horrendous, the closest I came to coming off, and that's despite having spikes on the front wheel.

If it wasn't so windy, it wouldn't be so bad, but the wind, snow and -4.5C certainly made for an experience.

WFH today - kids out playing in a blizzard. Snow is funny consistency - seems like someone has just opened the world's largest beanbag over our back garden.

    @paddyirish

yes its a strange type of snow - wonder if its got a proper scientific name

i call it squeely snow because of how it sounds when you walk on it

Walking home last night through Roseburn the pavements had already been salted. Don't know if it's priority because the streets are near a primary school and and old people's homes, or whether some Samaritan had gone ahead and done it.

Roslin/Bush was bright early on, a couple of inches of snow, but then the wind started whipping the snow into the air. I looked at the forecast and decided to get the bus to work. It would've been OK riding in, but not so sure about riding home again.

I'm wearing my hiking boots today, and have my Yaktrax in my bag just in case.

Looks like the North Edinburgh Paths are clear as of 9am this morning. #travel #snow this is Roseburn Path at Ravelston Dykes.

Pleasant walk in this morning, wind at my back an yaktrax on my feet. Not sure I really needed the traction but if the forcast holds I suspect I'll need them later.

Leith Links all snowy. WoL had been half-scraped and half-snowed-back-over from Sandport to Warriston but there was a mini-tractor heading back eastwards past the crematorium. Craigleith Hill Avenue seemed like yesterday's rain had frozen under the snow - mostly grippy with studs but the odd but of rear-wheel-slippage. There was a ploughless gritter coming down from the uphill bit of Crescent, so some of it might have been gritted. Roseburn half-scraped from Craigleith to the WoL viaduct and fully-scraped southwards thereof.

Advised to work from home today and am doing so. Did go (by bus) to Haymarket where they were obviously hoping to run trains on the Airdrie - Bathgate line but failing to do so - two were cancelled in the time I was there and then I got the "work from home if you can" text from my boss.

Today and tomorrow is supposed to be the worst of the weather here I believe.

As of first thing this morning, walking from Grange to Tollcross and back, I couldnt believe that my son had the day off school - was a beautiful winters day, sunny and not "that" cold with the right layers.

However the Met Office has just upgraded the snow warning to Red for this afternoon, so it could be that the authorities got it all spot on - we will see.

Meanwhile Twitter is a mixture of outrage that schools are off, outrage that sporting fixtures have been cancelled early. Lets see what they all say later if armageddon does hit !

Yes, apart from the cold wind it doesn't feel too bad, does it? Let's see what later brings. They won't be issuing a red warning for the fun of it...

Pleasantly surprised by a lack of terrible driving on Gilmerton Road today. My expectations are admittedly low.

Minor roads around West Lothian are not great. They are letting us go home at 2pm today (yay!) but expecting to come in tomorrow morning (less yay).
