Given the Met Office predictions (ice overnight and heavy snow at 5ish this evening) that was pretty benign.

A wee bit of snow on way home, much less problematic than my virus which makes Ashley terrace feel like Ventoux at the moment....

No snow today and got a puncture on my MTB this morning on the Bruntsfield Links cycle path, obviously didn't avoid the glass that litters it. Thanks to the The Bike Works for the on-the-sport change.

As it is getting lighter it is only now I'm starting to see how much the roads have deteriorated over the winter. There's some serious new potholes out there. The journey downhill with thicker tyres and front suspension was actually quite nice.

To make up for taking the MTB I took a slightly more off road and dark journey home through Braidburn Park and the lanes to Swanston which was a bit more fun than the usual slog home.

Snow and ice down to lower levels in Falkirk this morning. Main routes still snow/ice covered, ungritted? Def glad of spiky tyres on the LHT and sidewinds were still disconcerting. Wouldn't advise it without full winter tyres just now, though it'll probably be fine in an hour or two. Other regular cycle commuter on the train has chosen an MTB this morning, no other cycles seen (yet!)

A sprinking of snow in Livingston. I was cautious through the station car park, but the roads I use were clear.

Cycled 11.5 miles before I encountered any grit on a cycle path this morning between Dalgety Bay and Edinburgh. Shall take the road home I think.

I'd be interested to hear what state the canal towpath was in this morning. I was overly cautious and took the bus today after sections were rather snowier than I had expected when I was cycling home around 8pm last night. Having said that, the potential storm that is forecast tonight/tomorrow will completely change things again.

Ski jacket and trail shoes for the walk home this evening, I've barely used the bike this year and I've got a saddle to break in before easter.

How's the NEPN from Craigleith to Barnton/Cramond today?

I took the A90 on the way in, but i prefer the path on the way back at this time of year, if it isn't too skitey

@jdanielp. Towpath fine from Meggetland west. A light dusting of snow, but no sheet ice. I had studded tyres on, so wouldn't notice any problems, but everyone I saw on ordinary tyres seemed fine.

The only hint of a problem was on the short path that joins the road at Meggetland to the canal. This is really smooth tarmac, and can be icy. Today someone had been up it on narrow tyres, and judging by their tracks in the snow they had lost the back end of the bike a couple of times.

@Greenroofer ah well, thanks for that. I should have been more courageous, although the weather seems to be starting to turn again so I may yet welcome my decision.

Why does the severe weather wait until I'm just putting my jacket on for the way home to become really severe?

Another night smelling of GT85 and Citrus degreaser awaits, I think...

Snowing in Livingston. Also in Edinburgh, according to boyfriend (who has not yet grown out of being excited by snow...)

EH1 swithering between swirly snow and slushy sleet. Might have to pick a route home which minimises the extent to which it will be blown directly into my eyes.

It seems to be sticking here (at least to non-treated surfaces). I'm not sure whether to go before it gets worse or wait until it turns back to rain.

@fimm: I'm well into my forties, and I haven't yet grown out of being excited by snow!

Out of interest, why the propensity for recycling three-year-old threads on CCE?

Settling on footpaths in Polwarth. A LOT of water on roads. Also big puddles at MMW/NMW junction.

Oxgangs Road at the top of Caiystane is bloody treacherous. Slush is being compressed to ice because all the traffic is at a near standstill because all the traffic is avoiding the bypass.

    Scariest commute ever, possibly.

Just been out again to rescue my motorbike that I abandoned carefully parked up earlier before it and I ended up on our side. The roads are a lot better, now that there's been a bit of rain and the traffic has moved on.

I also used my Yaktrax officially for the first time while I was hoofing it up the road. I want Yaktrax for my motorbike now.

After being far too cautious and not cycling on Wednesday morning for fear of ice, I courageously set off home along the canal in the slush last night at around 5pm. It really wasn't all that bad but I took it steadily just in case... I think thay my new Schwalbe Land Cruiser front tyre might be rather grippier than the ageing Specialised Crossroads tyre that it replaced last month which maybe helped a bit.

Well, the weather forecast for tonight's commute wasn't that accurate. 6°C it said. Try 0°C. according to my Garmin, with a strong headwind which made it feel well below freezing. Fingers are still numb!

So it seems the payment for the early taste of summer we've had is that wind this afternoon. A strong constant headwind I can deal with, this was the blustery type that eases off for just a second giving you a very short relief, before coming back and hitting you full on. I don't think I ever managed to ride in a straight line at all.

I knew I should have left the single speed at home. It's going to be a battle getting home tonight!
