I was away for the aftermath of the Beast from the East. Time enough for the pre-beast road salt to get to work turning my perfectly well-oiled chain bright orange. The shame of it.

Fixed my chain, but oh my days what has happened to the roads? They appear to have been lightly shelled.

Yes the wee scorpion tanks out the back of The WHEC have been indulging in some light shelling of the roads of Edinburgh. Very bad crater after the jet garage of Currie, really pushes you out into the middle of the street

Even the FRB paths haven't escaped the shelling which I find quite exciting.

Hmm, I meant surprising, now t sure why I found it exciting in that post.

Ys surprising as the scorpion tanks have a very limited range given that they are quite mad minature versions that the techy teacher at WHEC has made (or some other inspired genius)

WoL path still pretty treacherous just as you head under the bridge at Blinkbonny. Frozen rutted slush too much for my 35mm tyres this morning resulted in a wipeout. Also lost my nice PDW rear light but only realised later. If anyone spots it I am willing to stand a coffee and maybe even a cake by way of reward!

Shared use pavement alongside Gilmerton Road is now passable, at least as far as the bypass.

The one alongside Lasswade Road is not even close to being passable, though.

New path is clear from Lasswade Road to Danderhall, almost certainly clear beyond that in both directions.

Was cycling in a t-shirt earlier. No jumper, jacket, buff, hat or gloves.

We've gone straight from winter to summer.

Anyone suffering in the overwhelming heat today could have taken a trip into the Moorfoots where it was a veritable ice bucket

I refuse to accept it could be summer until our garden is free of snow.

The man in my local Co-op said it was supposed to snow this weekend. I expressed my displeasure at that prospect.

It was a slog into the cold easterly this morning.

@Stickman I really enjoyed the tailwind this morning -- i arrived at work at 7.45, which gave me time to get changed without any rush, get coffee, put chia seeds in my yoghurt, exchange a few messages with Mr Bill who was boarding his down-under plane and all of this before the 8.00 meeting.

@bill I too enjoyed the tail wind, although cycling back into town against the headwind whilst it rained was grim, especially after having stood in the cold wind and then also the rain for two and a half hours waving placards.

put chia seeds in my yoghurt

I feel like this is something not to be admitted to.

@jdanielp - good protesting work there. Rooting for all my academic friends.

Yes, @jdanielp, I am a deferred member of your scheme so you are protesting on my behalf too, for which I thank you.

Sorry - I think it must be an Audax thing.

The Forth and Tay was postponed due to the Big Beastie from the East. It was changed to this weekend, obviously hence the wee beastie.

The Met Office have extended their weather warning for snow and ice for most parts of Scotland as the ‘mini Beast from the East’ arrives.

Forecasters predicted snow showers across large parts of the country this weekend, including Edinburgh and the Lothians, Strathclyde and Central, Tayside and Fife.

I had a fun ice bike bimble up the railway path towards Penicuik then over by Edgelaw Reservoir. Very wintry up there down to - 2 ish with strong winds and blizzards. Snow is settling above about 150m.

Oh and Forth and Tay Audax is cancelled again
