"Severe weather warning"

No, Greenroofer isn't out there somewhere. After some indecision last night he decided that with the Weather Warnings covering the whole of the route it was probably unwise to go. After an early morning regretting it, he now isn't.

Next weekend is currently looking promising though.

    Are day passes transferable?

What are your plans for next week?

@Frenchy - I am pleased to confirm that in this case the day pass is transferable, and has in fact already been transferred to next week.

It's a shame that my £8.30 EDB-ALM ticket wasn't transferable (it's not the cost that bothers me particularly, more the fact that I had reserved a bike space, so I feel a twinge of guilt that I may have deprived someone else of that space and prevented them taking their bike somewhere).

I'm now off to see if I can get a cheap EDB-ALM ticket for next weekend...

@greenroofer, if you genuinely feel guilt say one Hail Mary but you have to mean it. Otherwise, you are already absolved given all the effort on your rides home this last week ii to those headwinds

No one else was taking their bike on a train leaving Edinburgh at 6 a.m. This morn

Fietsclub were proposing nimble largely along canal. To mannerstons coffee shop near Linlithgow. It has a wood burning stove.

I rose from my slumber a at the allotted hour, looked out the window and whatsapp'd my return to bed.

Frequent flurries through the night have finally stuck and are continuing today. As per forecast, I did wonder at the difference between the wording which was as above and the estimate of likelihood of precipitation? As seemed certain it would snow but in short bursts? 100per cent likely to have a wee bit of snow does not mean ten per cent precipitation?

When I made the breakfast the flurry was very heavy making me glad I did not venture out despit my fleece lined endura waterproof biblongs being looked out at bedtime.

    fleece lined endura waterproof biblongs

I feel warm just reading that.

I'm off to Balerno from Stockbridge in half a hour, but I will be on the mountain bike.

    @unhurt

Take care. This is snow of a type developed in Russia.

I feel prepared. I shrugged off what was almost certainly Russian-modified wine after Wednesday night, I think that helps with developed immunity.

Only three days a year cold enough to wear those biblongs. @unhurt, snow off at the moment. Wind behind and on return will be downhill. So should be good but you fell off at Dean village last time innit

I might take a route that avoids the Dean Village downhill ice sheet....

I can confirm that @unhurt considers falling off to be an integral part of any cycle ride on a par with changing gear. Barely worth interrupting the chat for.

@unhurt is just young, old codgers such as @gembo take long time to heal these days and go very slowly trying not to fall off

Having shovelled snow for about two hours this morning, clearing a lot of my road – because it's a cul de sac and hardly ever sees a plough – and both footways, and the 30 metre footpath nearby, I'm knackered.

The snow is also very wet. The ground is just warm enough to melt away the rest once it's cleared. The mainer roads with enough traffic seem to be clearing themselves quite well.

A yellow warning covers most of Scotland with people told to take care on roads, pavements and cycle paths as ice is expected to form.

    WTF

Who writes for Hootsmon now? How could any sub editor accept as an urban myth that everyone believed that It always rains in Edinburgh?

It is bone dry in Edinburgh if sunny and cold. If this were untrue that would be an urban myth that everyone believes

    Or

If it is actually quite dry in soggy old mucky old Glasgow that would be another untrue urban myth

Still at least opening on that myth allowed me to not read any of the others.

@Arellcat - thanks, your post convinced me to do the footways on our street. Appears that in the last fortnight some of my neighbours have discovered the grit bins, so it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

I did a single plough width all the way along my street this morning and it didn't take longer than doing a full clear of "just my bit"

    Much more useful too

drove in today (-0.5 on the car) but the a90 cycle path looked clear and dry - hopefully back on the bike tomorrow.

cycled through a massive pothole filled with water on friday, into Inverkeithing amazingly the rear didnt puncture (**shudder - changing those marathons**) and the wheels is still true.
    hate it when that happens!

@SRD indeed it was, and there were barely any issues all the way to Hermiston House; just a little slushy/ice in a few shaded spots. The Wester Hailes 's' bend was even ok.
