“The Wester Hailes 's' bend was even ok.”

This is an often mentioned bit of ‘bad infrastructure’

I don’t suppose anyone has worked out the best way of dealing with it and told Scottish Canals/Sustrans?

@chdot the Heriot-Watt Active Travel Champions fed back to Sustrans about this issue a few years ago and around the same time I am pretty sure that one of us flagged this up with Scottish Canals as well (I suspect that it was around the time that I was repeatedly Tweeting them about broken glass and tile on the towpath (some of it at the 's' bend no less) and Scottish Canals repeatedly replying to say that the team had been out to clean it up, yet the glass and tile remained untouched through many such itertions).

@Iain McR it's positively balmy in the office, but this is the first day in a week (and one of only a few days in the last month) that I haven't been stood on a freezing cold picket line. Trying to work again may also drive me barmy.

@rider73- take care on the steepest part of the descent past the Cramond Brig pub down to the old bridge. The entire left hand side was very icy Stay right when heading into town.

Apart from that, everything was as dry as a bone.

@rider73. But it is bone dry. As long as there is no rain overnight, you just need to wrap up warm.

When I first looked out the window over the weekend, I could see about 2 inches of snow had fallen overnight with the thermometer below zero.

The world seemed to be going about it's business as usual, with trams bussling down the streets.

The pedestrians were well wrapped up but walking on cleared pavements.

The unidirectional cycle paths were also cleared and being well used.

The roads in the city were clear but further out the streets still had snow on them, with mini tractors clearing the pavements AND cycle paths.

    You've probably guessed, I wasn't in Edinburgh...

I was in Munich, car capital of Germany. Such a contrast to be home...

    “You've probably guessed, I wasn't in Edinburgh...”

Actually I thought you might mean that the last snow event here had made people realise how to deal with the mini-return!

Stunning ride in. Not as cold as i thought

There is a lot we can learn from Germany, recycling, road maintenance, infrastructure,

chdot, I was wondering the same although the presence of trams on the road outside someone's window first thing in the morning would be a rarity in Edinburgh.

I've not been out on the bike yet, but for the past couple of hours there have been some really gusty episodes. If you're bunked down at work, don't be surprised if you emerge and find the wind has risen since you arrived.

Air temperature is an interesting one. Must be a big swing in the last 10 days or so - something like 8.5c today.

I was up Glenshee yesterday - stunning day, great skiing etc.

Cold am, but sunny and very warm in the afternoon. Although the mountain has enough snow to see them through the season, there is a lot of melt at the roadside / carpark altitude.

Went for a head-clearing ride at lunch time, out to the Park Bistro and back into Linlithgow. Quite the headwind travelling west. Couldn't find a sheltered places to eat my pieces even though the air temperature was quite comfortable. I don't fancy the look of those clouds travelling east though, hitting my spot on the map just in time for me to leave the office...

Very gusty on way home after failed blood donation. Had to pedal downhill to keep going on approach to Dean Bridge.

everyone at after school collection complaining about it feeling really cold, even though it was supposed to have warmed up. i kept silent because i was sweating in my cycling shell, having been wearing a heavy thinsulate winter jacket all week!

you won't be surprised to hear that they'd all just got out of their cars.

Very gusty between Fairmilehead and Hillend; the torpedo was getting a bit wayward! The Old Pentland Road was nicely sheltered though.

Katabatic winds off Arthur's Seat this afternoon. Made heading up to Newington chilly hard going.

Yes blown to a standstill and shouted at on the long drag use the [Rule 2] cycle path ya [Rule 2]. Should maybe have used the path but was feeling all bolshie and righteous.

How very unlike you. Hope you had a lie down till they passed (the feelings, not the car).

The ‘easterley’ this morning made cycling up Leith Walk very pleasant. I wish it would come around more often.

It's technically snowing in Roslin right now. It was raining an hour ago, while I was in the garden digging up dandelions, then it started sort of sleeting, but the sleety snow now is very wetting and somewhat sporadic.

Edit: Well, five minutes ago it was snowing.
Edit: And that's the snow back on.
