It's days like these that I really want an eBike for battling the headwinds

This morning I kept pace with an ebike rider from Inverkeithing to Cramond. He would pull away from me on flat/false flat and downhill sections and I would catch right back up in strong headwind sections and steep climbs.

Not sure what this says based on a one-person survey, but not necessarily what I expected.

  2. Maybe he was out of juice or running in Eco mode! They're sluggish, heavy beasts with no power, and only slightly less sluggish in Eco.

I've ridden one on holiday for a day for the last three years, and they're brilliant. I've spent an hour cycling uphill at a fair clip on rough, stony tracks without any problems, where I'd probably have lasted about 5 minutes on a 'manual' bike before requiring medical assistance.

Got blown across the road outside Jeanie Dean's. No worries, nothing coming but a foretaste of the wild days in store.

£2.50 for a pint of Best in Jeannie Deans Tryst Edinburgh.

    (Bellhaven Best).

A lot of the clientele work in the neighbouring Cop Shop.

There is a wee cafe or something opening on the corner.

The bollards are new at the top of St Leonard's Hill. The good bollards that stop cars driving where they should not be

Do you know if any have been added at the bottom of Brown St?

From first of those 3 links...

"It is expected to push north-east towards the UK late Monday, before clearing quickly to the north of Scotland through Tuesday morning.

"There remains large uncertainty in Helene's exact track, however a spell of very strong winds is expected, initially for parts of south-west England and west Wales, then later south-west Scotland and the south-east of Northern Ireland.

There was a large branch down at Harrison Gardens this morning, partly blocking the towpath.

Lights for the first time on the haul up from the shops with the last haggis on the shelf. How come everyone's having haggis tonite?

I left work quite late at 7 so deployed my lights for the first time in some time. I had hoped to make it home before the rain came, but it started just as I set off and became progressively heavier. It wasn't all that cold though so I resisted the urge to stop to put on my waterproofs.

@jdanielp almost spherical and full of blood?

It is suspiciously calm in Orkney at present. Mild. Wet. And fixing to blow hard enough tomorrow that my overnight ferry berth to Aberdeen is in doubt. Oh dear. Next Aberdeen boat: Friday night.

I decided to get up 'early' today and cycle in before the worst of the weather. It was quite pleasant when I set off at 8 am, but the rain started when I reached the canal and became progressively worse, much like last night, although it seems like it has became substantially worse since I arrived at work. I did at least stop to put my waterproof jacket on this time, but really should have made the effort to put my trousers on too. Ah well. It wasn't really particularly windy though. I hope that it won't hold the wind back until later this evening as a result.

quite pleasant this morning, just enough of a blow to push me on without causing undue alarm and got in just before the weather hit. Running home tonight, hopefully it won't be too bad.

I decided to get my ride in before work today rather than commute in. It was lovely.
