Not at all windy on my commute in. However I was able to wring about a pint of water out of my t-shirt and gloves after my 15 minute cycle...

Stay safe out there, people.

Gloriously empty on the towpath after school drop off. Not too windy but very wet. Canal counter showed 176 just after 9am, so a few hardy souls out there.

@unhurt, "It is suspiciously calm in Orkney at present. Mild. Wet. And fixing to blow hard enough tomorrow that my overnight ferry berth to Aberdeen is in doubt. Oh dear. Next Aberdeen boat: Friday night."
Aye, those Orkney winters. Remember them well. It was often touch and go whether you'd get home for the Xmas holidays, or indeed get back after New Year. October break was sometime poor too: flights grounded, ferry pitching and yawing in huge swells, the decks awash with.....well best not go into details there.
There's a reason why you find lots of Orcadians living in Edinburgh...

Good to see a chart with high wind procedures for FRB in one place. Have to say I think they get the closure levels right from a cycling POV.

At least one colleague, up here for other reasons, is now stuck tonight. I'm just refreshing Northlink's updates page every 30 minutes.
I am also about to go for a quick early lunch dip with friends at Ness Slip in Stromness - in pouring rain and rising wind...

2 people out on takeaway bikes just now
A bold choice if I do say so.

Think there needs to be a bold person prepared to report back here.
(General assumption that heavier bikes get blown about less, but may depend on advertising panels...)

Not terribly windy up north, but it's wetter out the water than in. Regret leaving waterproof trousers at home given I have to return hire car and cycle from B&B to dinner then on to ferry - only a few miles but will more than far enough (and into the wind) to get well & truly sodden.

This morning I definitely made the wrong clothing choice. Got to work soaked and had to dry off with hairdryer and wear a spare pair of trousers I have in my locker. I'm thinking that I might get the bus home now that the wind has got up (thank heavens for an underground bike cage at work where bike is likely to be safe from thieves).

The mother reports falling masonry has shut E end Princes St & claims traffic lights out "everywhere". Not sure how accurate this Balerno based report is in actuality though.

@LivD same here, hairdryer and towel to get my trousers back to wearable because I don't have a spare pair in the office.

I can confirm that Top Shop Corner is shut.
Rentabikes OK in the wind; a strong headwind makes the third gear not far too low on the flat.Posted 6 years ago # -

Bus along Princes Street. East end delays and it was wall to wall buses but okay returning. Traffic lights working.
Tram only working from Shandwick Place.
Saw one brave soul (woman) cycling among the bus shoal in Princes Street.
Wind strong but I've seen it stronger.

"Princes Street has been closed East Bound from Top Shop due to fallen masonry.
Buses are being diverted.
This will affect journey times.
Please allow extra time to travel this afternoon. "Lothian Buses

Temperature mild.

Rail services cancelled until at least 20:00 today. Hope they will be running tomorrow....
It is remarkably mild, some severe gusts at street level but overall not so bad on foot.

Was a bit of sleet 2.30pm. I wussed out of cycling back, mostly for fear of something happening just at the time a driver thought now would be a great time for a close pass, but it *is* quite mild with only occasional strong gusts.

There goes our bold reporter.
Went for a non-essential journey myself. The bike was quite capable of climbing Leith St into a strong headwind, slow and steady wins the prize.
The wind was more squirrely on Princes St but I didn't feel the bike handled any differently from any other in such conditions.
