Towpath icy (but thawing) Meggetland to bypass at 0745. It would have been nerve-wracking without studded tyres. Road at Meggetland a sheet of ice (as it often is). Suspect it will be gone soon though.

Had the big bike out but then decided I didn't fancy it and bailed on to the train. Less scary in Livingston (in fact not icy at all). Will cycle home.

Broomhouse Path and Tram Path covered in black ice.

Hmm. Thanks all. I'm committed to the hybrid today so won't be rushing out and will be taking it easy again when I do. Luckily I'll avoid Boroughmuir. A quite unpredictable week all in all.

Well that was ok. Mostly just damp towpath with occasional hints of ice around the edge, but a few more substantially 'icy' areas that then made slushy noises when rolled over. I dismounted for the Slateford Aqueduct but it didn't feel slippy underfoot. Nearly everybody else I saw seemed to be cycling confidently and not getting into any predicaments. One or two were cycling rather less confidently and also not getting into any predicaments. The iciest part of the journey was getting onto the towpath from Ashley Drive...

My street and pavements down to the school were very slippy. I took it very easy this morning don't think I was ever in danger of slipping but very nervous.
Tomorrow is looking like a blast!

Porty to Roseburn, not even a touch of frost
Roseburn Park and riverside path - black ice!
I wobbled on all four tactile strips in the park, even the two I could take head on and very slow.
After i gingerly turned off the path onto the Baird Drive bridge, I heard a cyclist behind me take a tumble. rider and steed both seemed OK.

Child using active travel to get to school on Saughtonhall Drive fell off her scooter. Looked like a sore one. Father was carrying second child in his arms. Black ice on all side street and pavements. Hope they made their journey with further incident.

Pre equinoctal gales? Warm out tho

Ride in via M'burgh was quite pleasant. At least until the last 20 mins when the wind blew strong (and headwind) and the rain started properly.

Broomhouse Path and Tram Path covered in melted ice (and rain).

so much water on the roads this morning 7.30ish. and stupid, stupid drivers.
Posted 5 years ago # -
got soaked. Also my first ever car through a puddle moment, very annoying but I was already soaked so channeled my inner zen and let it go.

Put my cycling gear on, but the plants in my neighbours garden were doubled over in the wind and the rain was coming down. So I bottled it and took the number 22.
By the time I left the house, the rain and wind had died down.

stupid, stupid drivers.
I had a sense of that this morning, too, although it was mainly tailgating and sizing me up for an overtake (me: "Better make myself look BIG!")
But my cycling glasses were covered in rain, my windscreen was covered in rain, and it was hard work to observe everything. I wondered if any of the drivists spared any thought for how it might be for another road user who possessed neither windcreen wipers nor RainX.

I *ahem* drove this morning. Don't think I missed much.
Gave one brave soul plenty of room on Queensferry Road just after Clermiston guy behind me barely bothered to come out of the lane.

Slowest commute ever this morning, very strong headwind and being a bit under the weather meant I had no energy.
FRB closed due to 50mph+ winds on way home.

A late ride home from parents house this evening, and the Seafield Moor Road was decidedly gusty and a strong headwind made its presence felt. The torpedo otherwise handles the wind well though.

Drove from Dumfries to Duns past St Mary's Loch in what would have been an amazing, if slightly terrifying, tailwind on a bike. Never seen whitecaps on the puddles before ...

First time for several years getting drenched in screen wipe. Mostly over my knees a little in the right eye. In the driver's defence they were quite far away from me when they sprayed their windscreen but the wind did carry it quickly to me.
I went in to work with old pair of EBC Lycra shorts under waterproof trews. On way home just the Lycra as it was too warm. Perhaps a little under dressed but it was not cold.

Wouldn't have the energy to ride an upright bike that far today.
Coming down Johnstone Terrace on recliner with fairly light pedalling despite wind. Once on Spittal St speed shot up amazingly.
Road clubs will be working in tight groups today.

Road clubs all cancel now in case of insurance claims?
Posted 5 years ago # -
@gembo - not sure. Our ERC friendly lodger will know.
Posted 5 years ago # -
West Lothian one I am aware of did cancel. Balerno Farmer's Market also off due to windyness
Posted 5 years ago # -
Apparently the fish van man attended the Balerno location, as he has a van and therefore was safer. No doubt if he wasn't careful he'd be serving out some flying fish...

@arobcomp. Yes fish van man was there on his own

Frosty this morning despite the forecast. I knew this as there was frost on the monoblock outside my house. We had a fall in the village of Newbridge. Little corner with pocket of ice. Ur County Mayo man fell on his elbow but they are hard out that way so he kept going (indeed he is still out there adding kilometres after we came home). We adapted route on the hoof as frost bad in Kirkliston so instead of going over the bridges we went to Linlithgow then Bo'ness and back via philipstoun and three mile town and ecclesmachan et cetera. No frost now.

Farmers' Market in Edinburgh much depleted. A few there with no covered stalls and produce in crates so it wouldn't blow away. Paper money flying out of your hands (actually money flies out of your pocket at Edinburgh's Farmers Market.)

Snowdrops and some early crocuses along the NEPN and WoL path.
Edinburgh citizens are a lawless lot - I saw 3 groups of walkers with dogs climbing around the barrier before Dean Village in the 45 seconds or so I was there (I of course took the diversion).
