Drove the automobile across town and observed two people just driving through red lights (because snow) and two trying to drive executive estates with low-profile sports tyres up Craighouse Gardens. They didn't manage and slithered back down out of control.

    Laughable road craft.

Pentlands looking rather white this morning. Also snowing in Livingston but melts before/as it reaches the ground.

I got a mix of snow and cherry blossom petals falling on my way...

Snow falling here in Fairmilehead, settling a bit on lawns & borders but not on hard surfaces. 1.7C according to my outdoor thermometer- reasonable risk of ice in some frost hollows I reckon.

Snowing quite hard in Livingston now.
Guess who did their long commute this morning... (it wasn't snowing very much then...)

Gosh! Quite mild in Linlithgow, now I'm worried that it's all going to change before I head home.

Panoramic photo taken from Haymarket of last night's hailstorm as it passed over Fairmilehead:

(I think you have to open the image in a new tab to see it in all its, er, glory.)

@ejstubbs dramatic! I was keeping an eye on that as I cycled home on the towpath last night and was happy to have evaded it. It rumbled menacingly a few times.

Great photo. You should send that in to the BBC weather site.

The heavy rain at Heriot-Watt stopped abruptly about half an hour ago. The sun came out equally abruptly just now.

Frosty in Gilmerton, and not everyone is bothering to de-ice their windscreens.

-1C in Fairmilehead this am. Sunny, though: frost on the lawn at 7am was melted to dew by 8am.

Ice on the grass in Clerwood at 8:15 none on paths or roads though. A bit cold in shorts mind :)

@steveo Condensation on my beard - harvest the moisture as you ride? No need for a bidon!

Edinburgh appears to carpeted in snails. Made of snails.

Spoke to some people from Cambridge, who said they desperately need rain. I thought we were all in it together.

Winter gloves and a Buff. In June.

I'd have worn autumn gloves but I couldn't find them. Winter ones were fine.

All my slap-straps seem to be in hiding though.

Neoprene gloves and two cagoules yesterday though I did start the morning up on the garage roof taking a small ball of leaves out of the drain to assist the removal of a swimming pool of water

Rain has (temporarily) stopped in Kilchoan!

Though this means the midgies are out instead...

Having looked at the forecast after a waterproof-free ride home*, I'm considering getting the bus tomorrow.

    *spoiler: I got damp

Very nice tweet from Lesley Macinnes:-

"Positive side effects of cycling in a spectacular rain storm: this 58 year old feels like an energised badass!"

I know what she means. Less friction, more speed, the sense of fighting the elements. Okay, only for 10 minutes, but felt rather heroic (and damp) cycling through that.
