@unhurt - I find them better than trousers, which cling to your legs, and make you feel colder. Also tights dry very quickly.

    Tomorrow!

    ---

Amber warning issued for heavy rain in south east Scotland

"The Met Office warned that flooding could cause damage to buildings and pose a danger to life in parts of south east Scotland on Thursday. The amber alert also says there could be power cuts, delays or cancellations to public transport, and difficult driving conditions on the roads."

(Borders, East Lothian and Midlothian will bear the brunt)

    Not going off is it?

Mrs Garto has ordered a new garden bench, seems optimistic

"Positive side effects of cycling in a spectacular rain storm: this 58 year old feels like an energised badass!"

A propos of nothing it has come to my attention that Cllr MacInnes purchased a copy of Overlander, a book that of course contains a 'rain scene'. I expect to find her bivouacked on the bonny banks of the Braid Burn.

Perhaps some of the bus stops between City Chambers and Liberton/Gilmerton will have some more shelter added, for the benefit of any cyclists sleeping in them?

Note to self: coin-operated bubble wrap dispensers in bus shelters.

I suggest starting with the bus stops on Liberton Road, you could have a nice wee nap whilst waiting for the pedestrian phase of the light sequence.

Nearly died of exposure crossing the Lady Road/Craigmillar Park nexus yesterday.

I managed to make that journey whilst it was still nice out. Spent so long waiting at every stage of every crossing on the way to Cameron Toll that I decided to time how long I spent waiting on the way back.

Fantastic idea, it turns out, as I got an almost perfect series of green men on the way back.

@Frenchy the traffic light gods were smiling on me this morning as I had a literally non-stop ride to work this morning in the downpour.

"Average speed at the moment is reported to be 15 mph" on the bypass.

Probably quicker to cycle or get the bus...

"Traffic is also heavier than normal, with queueing traffic due to rain on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass"

As in "Oh god it's raining I'd better take the car instead of walking/cycling/waiting in the rain for a bus/tram".

"Severe delays of up to 17 minutes"

I wonder what makes them different to a regular 17 minute delay.

Is this an example of a sentient weather condition? The downpour caused the delay rather than an increase in the number of muppets who resorted to their cars?

Bottom of Cutlins Road flooded - feet got wet as they dipped into the floodwater on the pedals.....

Fared better than at least one car mind you - hazards on and steam pouring out of it!!

Water of Leith rising very high in Roseburn and roaring and raging. A good few feet from the top of the flood defences, however on the Park side only a day or so rain from flooding into the park, and overflowing the bridges.

At the entrance to Roseburn Park a woman told me that this would sweep away the ducklings, however further along where the river is less channelled, the river was quieter and the ducklings were safe.

I wonder how many people who are complaining about traffic chaos have paved their front gardens?

I was very late packing for an early flight due to going out and taking wee videos of the river - standing waves, churning fury and something like rapids along the Dene!
