We had raindrops the size of tennis balls, wimbers must be about to start?

Aye the drops were so huge they looked like hailstones! A fair drumming on the roof and skylights...

Yip I thought hailstones at first but turned out just to be very very heavy rain. Been up clearing drain on garage roof. The drain globe thing is always getting choked. Bad design

It's been threatened all day, but only a few spots. Humid though.

It's been awful all day - I'm sure it's been 400% humidity, don't tell me it's not possible.

Some light rain just now, but at 23:30, it's still 17'C.

#LNERUpdate Due to severe weather between #Perth and #Inverness the line towards #Inverness is closed. Train services running to and from these stations may be delayed by up to 60 minutes. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Just back from a week in Coldingham where the thunderstorms hit. The beach lifeguards were cut off by white water, The stream burst it's banks and the butchers shop was said to have been flooded.

Two floods in as many months is severe enough for me and I'm hopefully for a drier August.

    @metoffice

It's looking likely that it will reach 39°C somewhere in southern and eastern England on Thursday. This would exceed the hottest temperature ever recorded in the UK #WeatherAware #heatwave #heatwaveUK

(29 degrees in south east and central Scotland...)

    London is hot hot hot.

Have false alarm fire drill this afternoon. I thought the building was on fire until we exited the building and recognised the heat in the stairwell was coming from outside.

Still more than 30 degrees and only highdyration I can find is beer...

I cycled in slowly this morning. Via the fronts at Musselburgh and Portobello to see if it was cooler. It wasn't. However the Innocent tunnel is a delight.

Experts at the Met Office have issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for large parts of Scotland this weekend.

So, is the use of the word “expert” an attempt to rehabilitate or a sneer??

Me, 40 minutes ago: Think I'll go for a cycle. Definitely won't need a jacket or mudguards.

    Me, now: Rule 2

    Down at the Scotsman office

"Weathermen at the Met ... " ah, no can't use that any more

    "Weatherpeople at the ..." no.

    "Weatherfolk at ..." nope.

Ah, Rule 2 it, "Experts at the Met Office have warned..."

I've been singularly unimpressed with these "so called" experts (channelling my inner small minded old person writing into a local newspaper).

I looked at the forecast this morning AND the rain radar and saw that it was going to be rather rubbish for going out on a bit of a bigger ride this morning. So thought I'd stay in, do a bunch of stuff on the list, and do an indoor training session.

Weather turned out fine until about 30 minutes ago. Bah humbug

On the other hand i travelled across to the west in thunder, lightning and in rain but despite this prediction was rarely troubled by a rain drop

How much nicer is it today. Comfortable temperature, humidity has backed off, fresh breeze. I'm not sweating just sitting in the living room!
