Yeah - more icy tales. Just came off on black ice going over the bridge on Ashley Tce, Polwarth. Guy on a Brompton 5 minutes later did the same. Take care folks.

    NEPN hadn't been gritted.
I turned my electric bike off and was OK just about but some very slow cornering was prudent...

Bit icy on the Brompton down from Blernae to Edinburgh park station

But train to Stirling a dawdle with it

Shonky council version that lay in basement for years so unfolds when Lifted but that is minor detail

Very slow ride in this morning, really need to swap out the tyres on the mtb for studs.

There was a council street cleaner guy standing at the bottom of Leamington Walk waving at cyclists to slow down this morning.

I didn't clock he was warning bikes to slow down because of ice until it was too late, just thought he was some typical anti-bike madman. So I'm not sure how effective his warnings were, sadly. Did not come to grief though.

That can be fixed by the retrofit kit - not too dear and relatively straightforward, so possibly worth a purchase request...

I don't see evidence of any [council] gritting. Spent half an hour gritting Whitehouse Loan this morning after almost coming off on descent towards the Astley Ainslie. Saw two cyclist come off on the corner with Strathearn Place Newbattle Terrace whilst I was there. Hopefully problem fixed for now but have tweeted Steve Burgess to request regular gritting.

Luckily I saw this thread before setting out and took the MTB instead of the hybrid and was fine on the towpath, but still experienced a brief moment of wheel slippage despite the 3 inch tyres... Heriot-Watt Campus is heavily gritted.

The pavements seemed fine everywhere this morning: mostly dry or with dry frost. I walked my bike in Ratho. Mr Bill left at the same time as I did and walked into the city and didn't see any ice. It just looked like the roads didn't really dry out after last night's rain.

Who would have thought that last night's rain could freeze when it gets around zero C in the morning? Clearly neither Edinburgh nor the West Lothian cooncils.

The only gritting I saw was at the turnoff to my workplace. But just at the turnoff. Icy after that.

Most sign's of ice on the canal were clear by the time I left home (after 09:30) - but grass was still frosty beyond the bypass.

Leith Links had touches of frost. WoL between Sandport and Eildon St not frosty, but slippy anyway due to the rotting leaves.

Drivers on Maybury Drive were learning the hard way that perhaps they need to adjust to the weather. Almost every car had the ABS judder going as they attempted to slow down for the roundabout. At least one ended up pointing the wrong way (although I didn't see it pirouetting)

I need to hurry up and finish diagnosing/fixing some problematic chain noise so that I can fit the spikes for winter.

Not on the bike due to going out straight from work. If I had been though I would most likely have wheeled the bike back home as there was so much black ice in Clerwood this morning. A really cold weekend forecast but its to get warmer again for Mon.

I put my winters tyres on last night due to the wetness of ground the last cold day was dry and not so bad. I noticed my normal marathon had green showing so will need a new New one before put back on

Was fine from Morningside as far a Asda at Chesser. Some wheel spin turning right at the lights - Taxi driver behind kept well back.

Took it easy from there to the Gyle. Not too bad on roads if using the road where car tyres weng as heat had melted ice.

Ultra slippy turning right at South Gyle Access, compounded by a trail of oil. Female Audi driver felt the need to lean on her horn as I wasn't making fast enough progress for her.... plus there was a car limping along in the left lane.... as she finally blasted past, I could hear her traction control working....

Three colleagues known to have come off this morning, one had to go to minor injuries, the others merely lost skin and wrecked clothing.

I've been on cx tyres for the leaf mulch but the spare wheels with the spikes are pumped up and ready if required next week.

    @roibeard, thanks for that.

On my return from edinburgh park i caused the young decathlon staff member to utter mild astonishment by flipping it onto its luggage rack to leave it with the security fellow.

I then had a laugh with some kids weaving through Currie (is a true suburb) What sort of bike is that mister they enquired as I pech - pech-ed up the hill. I said it folds up into a tiny size. They thought this was funny and shouted is it from 2050. THis made me laugh and I shouted as I departed Yes It is from the future.

I then caused the young pretend thugees of Balerno (another suburb) to laugh as I ploughed into them on the brompton (I know them). Quite a jolly old commute.

I had also received a request at my meeting in Stirling to always have a slot after lunch such was the chirpiness of my item.

    Plus the sun was shining.

Do people have favourite sites they use to check for the chances of ice on the roads in Edinburgh? There used to be a good page from Edinburgh Uni with precipitation/temp over the last 24 hours in graph form but can't seem to find it anymore? Met office do the same info for various Edin weather stations but in annoying side-scrolling table. Are there better options to find this in one place at a glance?

I think this is the Uni page you mean: https://www.ed.ac.uk/geosciences/weather-station/readings

Seems to have broken in July 2018 though.

    I like this site's layout: http://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/Scotland/Edinburgh~3333229/hour_by_hour.html

You're a weird human radiator. I was FREEZING on my way home c. 19:30 last night. Time to purchase new winter gloves.

I made a mental note to gather the cattle in the living room as I made my way through the icy night. Ancestral memories become highly available at this time of year.
