In between the showers this might constitute a Drying Day but pushing it a bit.

@gembo, yes it seems my pub crawling days coincided with peak crusty in the Southside. Judging by pics online, Pear Tree looks excessively sanitised and corporate now, like a cross between a 1980s sports bar and a student union. Don't really crawl pubs any more, but if I did I'd probably give it a miss frankly.

I used to be a regular pub quizzer at the Pear Tree, but after the refurbishment we never went back. Totallly soulless. Looks as though it was out together from a corporate pub-in-a-box kit.

Strong gusty Southerly. If you are heading West it may playfully try to push you into oncoming traffic. Seriously though, I'd think twice about doing it again myself in these conditions.

BIT WINDY. Had enough difficulty walking to the bus stop let alone cycling!

Made it (bike-train-bike) to Livingston. Seem to have escaped the worst of the gusts - I think the wind direction meant that some trees sheltered me from the worst of it.

Locking up the bike was actually more challenging - I should have gone to the other bike rack which is more sheltered.

Now I just have to hope that nothing damages the railway line before I go home!

Was a bit blowy out at 7am but I had a good ride in. The main hazard was wheelie bins tipped over, litter strewn all over the place, and blue crates on the road.

WoL clear of big branches or trees between Sandport and Chancelot. Chancelot clear of big branches. NEPN clear of big branches between Chancelot and Roseburn.

Oh yes, I removed a wheelie bin from the road near Gorgie City Farm. Thanks to the chap who I think had just got off a bus who stopped to help.

I managed to cycle to Heriot-Watt. The worst moments were being overtaken dangerously on Gilmore Place, approaching the modern aqueduct at Slateford where the water was being whipped up in an absolute maelstrom (seeing this ahead of me, I decided to dismount to cross, somewhat unncessarily) and then watching two other people cycle across the proper aqueduct ahead of me after I had dismounted for a second time. I cycled across the Scott Russell Aqueduct though. Aside from that there were a few scary gusts, but it was mostly surprisingly benign and I didn't even get soaked.

Had to put the anchors on to avoid being blown uphill out of the ASZ on Minto Street. Thought I was Chris Hoy when I got going.

Both brakes on down Leith Walk after the gridlocked Hellscape.

Some hints of side gusts coming between tenements heading down Pleasance (like a rocket).

A giant wheelie bin had been blown into the middle of the road which was pretty impressive.

Wind is supposed to rotate to West-> East later on, which may make things worse, but hopefully it'll also weaken.

The roadside lakes in Glasgow were the bigger issue for my bike-train-bus commute this morning. Feet got drenched, wound up with freezing pools of water in my shoes, which icily jumped around over every little pothole. Thankfully have a spare pair at work

    Wow! Well done everyone!

I cycled up to Longstone before deciding that the country roads would be too wild in these conditions. Due to some tunneling effects on Slateford Rd the wind couldn't make its mind whether to keep pushing me onto the pavement and parked cars or the other side of the road.

I got a lift in with my colleague. He said he was anticipating to need to rescue me along the way.

Cycled from Waverley out to the Bioquarter. Pleasance was not so pleasant, especially the steep uphill outside the uni gym. Every time I got out of my seat to help with the climb, I just got blown back to a standstill. As @toomanybikes mentioned, the side gusts made it a bit hairy at times.

Ugh, very windy, even when just trying to walk. Glad I decided just to get the bus today.

Rather shuddery moment when I was walking to the bus stop and saw a (roughly tin can sized) stone from a building on the pavement, and then realised if one had been blown loose and out, then potentially so could another, and that it would make rather a nasty dent in my head… «walked on briskly»

@davecykl yikes... Part of my reasoning for cycling this morning was to have a good excuse to be wearing a helmet.

Reports of a fallen tree partially blocking the road on Colinton Road near Craiglockhart Road North.

Please update us if it's safe and legal to do so and use #edintravel

It has abruptly become VERY wet outside the office at Heriot-Watt.

I had intended to leave early before it got dark given that it is still wet and windy, but it's already quite dark outside. I'll hopefully escape soon though. It is considerably less wet than it was an hour ago at least.

Still blowy but didn't feel as bad as this morning, maybe because it's turned Westerly, so a tailwind for me rather than a cross wind? Bucketing down & lots of standing water of course.
