Doesn't feel icy in Livingston (although my feet are still cold).

Got a fright joining the tram path from Carrick Knowe, very frosty and a bit slippy given the cars were all clear I didn't think the ground would be frozen.

The only ice I saw this morning was just west of Cramond Brig. Where the road leaks the ice hadn't yet fully melted.

There was ice on the puddles by the road as I rode up Mounthooly Loan at munchtime today. The road surface itself was ice-free, however.

(Anyone able to shed any light on at when that road became an unofficial park-and-ride? It's definitely not residents' cars: I cycle that way fairly regularly on evenings and at weekends, today was the first time I'd been up there on a weekday during working hours and I was rather surprised to find myself having to duck in and out of the line of parked cars for the convenience of drivists coming down the hill.)

That was one cold cycle home tonight 10 pm

Frost on all paths. Main roads clear. Starry starry night. No cloud cover.

Frosty out this morning (at 0500) and untreated roads were sparkly. The Meadows paths all had been salted though and seemed fine (although I had studs on)

Looks like the temps stayed just above freezing until around 5am & no rainfall overnight. In theory, that should mean frost but no ice except the odd frozen puddle in most of the city.

Frosty in Livingston - one bit of the road was a little alarming looking so I got off and walked. Roads between Gorgie and Haymarket fine but the pavements were sparkly... the pavement near Haymarket had been gritted.

Inside lane ON THE kingsknowe dual carriageway ungritted. or partially gritted. THe young person who overtook me did not seem to be taking the surface in to consideration.

I may have mentioned this to them had they not jumped a red light at Slateford and then taken a left at ardmillan.

Perhaps they were just better at handling their bike.

I suppose it was not too slippy??

I took the MTB today, as I have been doing, perhaps rather overly sensibly, all week. It was definitely beneficial today though. Going the long way around the canal basin, the front wheel started sliding out as I was cornering fairly gently behind Akva, although a combination of the 3" wide plus tyres and perhaps some instinctive movements on my part kept me upright, if slightly unnerved. Everything was then quite ok until Slateford Aqueduct, which was in the worst condition I have ever experienced. Despite those ahead of me having dismounted and making slow progress across, I decided to merely slow down and cautiously roll onto it to find out what grip there was. I almost immediately experienced slippage so came to a (fortunately) controlled halt and dismounted. I found my shoes and the tyres slip-sliding repeatedly on the uneven cobbles as I shuffled slowly across. I was relatively relieved to see nobody trying to cycle, but a few people started crossing in the other direction so in response I flattened myself and my bike against the railing as best I could to let them by since they appeared to be more confident on foot than I was. I then headed into Colinton Dell where the path was still very muddy in places, through the back of Juniper Green, across the incredibly muddy farmer's field and down the Donkey Path to the Heriot-Watt main entrance. I was glad to have cycled but really could have done with far less ice near the canal and more on the Colinton Dell path...

I did a boy-racer wheelspin off the junction of Gilmerton Road with Lady Road. Only slip on the way so a bit of a surprise. Still on slicks (can't be bothered to set up snow bike)

I found it tricky going home last night in places so the bike remains in the garage today.

To think I used to cycle through anything in my younger days but just too feart now I'm in my fifties.

@jdanielp Agreed, the aquaduct was as bad as I've seen it for many years, for some reason. Multiple riders warned me as I approached, which was good of them. I opted to ride across because studded tyres are far safer than walking on ice.
    Cold toes today.

  20. Porty - Gyle via Princes Street was very frosty. Rode Mrs ECT's 38's with a tread rather than my slick 25's. Absolutely no issues whatsoever.

Except the carnage causing blockage at Haymarket. Car parked sticking back out the jug (over the cycle lane) which of course stopped a tram, which of course, stopped everything else except cyclists.

Hoping the milder forecast of +5c predicted for early evening proves correct

Just home from work via a colleague's house in the Longstone area. Feeling bitingly cold in the wind still, but the frost and ice is gone from the towpath and the aqueduct was merely a little bit slippy due to being damp. Also hoping that tomorrow is milder.

According to the ever-pessimistic Beeb forecast, tomorrow will be positively balmy. Reckons a high of 9ºC.

Is darkness severe weather? Actually peeked over my eyewear to check if I'd somehow got the dark lenses in.

Sooo dark this morning. I am pretty consistent in my timings as I'm doing school drop off at 08.30 but today I wondered whether I'd somehow managed to leave the house 20 mins early. With a 5 yo. I laughed... :D :D :D

It's so mild today I assume @edinburgycyclecam has been commuting in his speedos.

I put a fleece on and my torso got so hot reaching the 84m contour that I began radiating what I think were X-rays but may have strayed into soft gamma radiation territory.

I used to have a rubbish boiler and a cold, damp flat. I would have a pretty good idea of the temperature outside.

Three years ago I got the damp treated and a new boiler installed. I now have a warm, dry flat. I have to check the Beeb to see if it's cycling/walking/tram weather.

The bird-bath is another indication. Ice - cycling not nice.
Water - that leaves me "oughter" or "slaughter".

Alas, I didn't realise just how warm it was when I left this morning, so I'm in my regular jeans and t-shirt.
