Cramond Toll quite icy this morning and plenty of frozen puddles in Fife. It was 0 or below for most of my commute this morning.

Very Icy at Ricarton and Hermiston P and R this morning.

Did you go on the towpath? Thanks for the heads up in any case. I had no expectation of it being icy this morning (as did the gritting people there by the sound of it).

Icy bits around Eskbank today but looked okay on main roads. Not cycling due to forecast plus virus wracked body

@Jdanielp - I had planned to go multimodal today. Drive to Hermiston P and R then cycle to work. I was struggling to standup in the car park and found black ice on cycle path leading towards Gogar Station Road. No studs to have to drive to work. Would have put the studded bike in the car, but no ice at home.

Icy on the Hawkhill Ave slope up from the Restalrig path.

Very slippery surfaces in the Queen’s Park especially on the roundabout near the Commonwealth Pool and low road to Duddingston.
Take care as already many people have had accidents.
Cheers

BBC saying severe winds between about 1 and 8.
Some other forecasts less apocalyptic.

After cycling on very frosty back roads in Wester Hailes I decided to go along A71 (my first time along the windy bits) rather than my usual options (Gogar Bank or A70). I think I made the right choice as all side roads looked very white/wet white. Even in Livingston some roads were still quite white.

The path by the ice rink looked very slippy, glad I had to take the mtb with studs on this morning, think I'd have come to grief otherwise.

Just seen a chap leaving a flat in Morningside dressed in full roadie gear (Castelli, mainly) with a fancy aero bike with very deep section carbon wheels. That's a 'courageous' choice, given the forecast for the next few hours.
I think he's heading for some Type 2 fun (or possibly even Type 3...)

No sign of frost or ice until after Slateford Aqueduct and then only minor remnants at the edges until the Bridge 8 Hub where there were still icy puddles. Heriot-Watt Campus was well-gritted as usual. I took the MTB anyway just in case so ended up a bit hotter and sweatier than I might have liked, but had a bit of fun along the fun as well.

KOM chasing heading North - perfect conditions!Posted 5 years ago # -
The Yr forecast has extreme rain for the afternoon along with some fairly strong wind. I'm hoping to leave lateish after the worst of it has passed, although I'm still going to get fairly wet on the cycle home since the mudguards on my MTB aren't especially effective at reducing tyre spray.

Oh God I took the leaky but hi-vis jacket today. I thought we'd had our extreme rain on Saturday?
Posted 5 years ago # -
no mud guards on studded mtb, this is going to be unpleasant.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Think of it as a mud mask beauty treatment?
Posted 5 years ago # -
and a presoak for all my clothes?
Posted 5 years ago # -
Yes. They will be nicely, er, abraded by the mud.

It's started raining lightly at Heriot-Watt but I fear that peak torrential rain will almost certainly wait to coincide with whenever I decide to leave work later on...
Posted 5 years ago # -
you will be home quickly on the bright side

I have no desire to grind home through sideways rain. None.

“sideways rain”
Pleased to say that during my central Edinburgh trip around 3 and 4 the weather was much less severe than ‘promised’.
Most surprising thing was that it seemed to be coming from the south rather than SW.
Posted 5 years ago # -
I'll stick my snout out the side gate just as @wingpig passes and make a call.
Posted 5 years ago # -
It has been sounding far calmer for the last ten minutes or so at Heriot-Watt. I'll be leaving at quarter past 6.
Posted 5 years ago # -
South was forecast direction.
Was brutal, went up wol path. Was sheltered if dark and muddy
Posted 5 years ago # -
My commute east was quite ok. Minimal rain and blowy at times, but fairly easy going.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Mercifully no sideways rain, it blowing in my face the whole way. Didn't really need to worry about my lack of mudguards because I didn't get enough speed to throw a lot of water up.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Slow, but I've had much worse. Rain for the last hundred metres.
All the workies' barriers blown over as ever. Are road people unaware of Scottish weather?

I took the bus. So easy now you can pay with a contactless card.
