This weather is like a fiendish anti-bike Psy Op. Not much joy to be had.

During every ride I have done this week I imagined a situation when the weather was worse, i.e. colder, stronger wind, stronger rain, no breaks in the rain and I always concluded that this time it wasn't not that bad...

    That's a fiendish pro-cycling Psy Op you've got there.

Just looked at the forecast for my westward commute.

    Oh, bother.

Stays same for my westward commute at end of day

Sunday looks positively becalmed with winds of a mere 20mph and sunshine

I too am getting rather browned off with this weather. 50mph wind gusts tomorrow according to the ever-pessimistic Beeb, so plan on sustained wind speeds around 30mph.

Will go down river path today and indeed return that way. Be careful certainly 30mph if not more. The wee granny on my chimney is Birlin.

Gonna go help @algo with the bike bus in a mo. Small kids scattered to the four winds I expect.

Met Office forecasting the worst winds between 8am and 10am, gusting 50mph+. Be careful out there. 9am is forecast to be the start of pretty much continuous, often heavy, rain for the rest of today (though it actually seems to be chucking down quite happily right now).

This bout of weather does not appear to have been blessed with a name. I wonder why not?

I have noticed that the Met Office now put any wind gust forecast of 29mph or over in bold face. Currently that's all of today, all of tomorrow and through until late afternoon Sunday. Nice. Not sure what's so significant about that wind speed, though.

@IWARTS And so it was. And so much of it. I was blown over to the other side of the road twice in Wester Hailes. I was glad that I was facing pure head-wind on Ratho hill (at crawling speed). Then going down to Wilkieston with cross-wind was a nightmare, as was the short section on A71 between Wilkieston and Jupiter Artland. Cross-gusts were not ideal with some close passes from cars.

At least the rain was not that strong for me!

    @ejstubbs Was wondering the same!

Just came close to getting blown over and I was on foot! No regrets about leaving the bike at home today. Risk of getting blown sideways into traffic just too great.

I was stopped at the lamppost at the top of MMW, holding on to the pedestrian push button box while still astride the bike, and got blown into the lamppost to the point where my frame was up against it and I was clinging on to it cartoon-style.

Felt like I'd been wrapped round a lamppost.

I thought it was called Ellen?

Quite wet in Livingston. Didn't feel the wind was particularly notable.

There were some fun gusts this morning, like having a turbo boost on the bike.

This awful weather has to end right?

Unsurprisingly only the toughest kids turned out for the bike bus. The wind played nice, we didn't lose any as far as I know.

    Bus and walking, or biking?

I laughably hoped I might have something approximating a tailwind riding home today. And I did! – for three blocks of the Calder Road. The rest was just hard work and I am having fish and chips potatoes for tea.

I saw a few hardy folk on cycles.

Tram crammed. I pondered this and then realised I was part of the cramming as I normally cycle.

    First lines on windy weather:-

    “Blaw the wind southerly, southerly”

“Oh north-west wind, when wilt thou blow”

“The wind was a torrent of darkness”

“The wind blew all my wedding-day”

“The rain set early in to-night,
The sullen wind was soon awake,”

“o wert thou in the cauld blast”
