how do some people do this everyday?Bus and walking, or biking?
walking. had heavy backpack and had to go collect child from school.
shattered.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

@arellcat - what modes are you using into city most at moment? Driest in theory is velo although you'll get spray with roads awash. But cycling or motorcycling not fun in a gale either.
My gears decided that today was the best day for playing up. Chain off 5 times before I decided to cycle using the granny cog only.
Hoping a good clean will suffice rather than new cogs.
gusting over 85mph this side, one bell past midnite
woo hoo
Let the winds blow high,
Let the winds blow low,
Down the streets on my feet I go,
All the drivers shout hullo,
Donald where's your cycle?
Sleet battering down from a battleship sky. When will it end he wailed.
@fimm & chdot: Ellen is the next name on the list to be allocated to a storm, but apparently the conditions are not yet forecast to be severe enough to warrant giving the weather system a name:
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/uk-weather-forecast-met-office-21549798
Weather warnings are in force every day from today until Monday, although forecasters say conditions are not severe enough to be classified as a storm.
Britain's next storm, set to be named Storm Ellen, will likely only be announced when the Met Office releases an amber wind warning - or a yellow one if there is also a severe rain alert.
Note that that article is datelined 18:27 yesterday.
Thanks.
Presumably there is also some need for it to affect a sizeable area too?
A very localised extreme bit of weather surely wouldn’t get its own name?
A piece of the roof of my neighbour's shed in my garden.
(That sounds like a French exercise)

By preference I use the red torpedo. As a rule of thumb, the windier it is outside, the better it goes, although you have to be careful when stopped at traffic lights with a strong side wind.
Motorbiking isn't too bad in the city, and at least you get places a lot quicker, but my big machine broke down at the start of the week, which is why my legs are now tired out.

So tonight probably...
I had about three hours' sleep last night because the wind was making so much noise in my neighbour's chimney and I was afraid for my lovely big tree that produces amazing whooshing sounds. By the time it was 2.30am and I was still awake, I decided to put my headphones on and listened to some vintage prog. I think I fell asleep somewhere around three quarters of the way through The Snow Goose. But I later woke up at an earlier part of the album – I think – so goodness knows what was happening, and after that I couldn't get back to sleep for the noise*. I can also confirm it is practically impossible to fall asleep with your fingers jammed into your ears.
* of the wind, natch
Quite enjoyed this against my better judgement.

Monday’s forecast indicates that an area of low pressure will affect the UK. We have issued Yellow warnings for this but the weather system is NOT a named storm and #StormEllen has currently NOT been named

Its energy rating is super efficient of course and superior to anything with an actual engine. Reckon your Quest has best use on East Coast and one of our best known HPVs. Aberdeen one next and Newcastle one after that. Guy in Newcastle did talk about putting on a Bafang motor but that spoils things. Although going up Comiston after a days work you may disagree. Even yachts have auxiliary engines without being considered 'cheats'!
Went out for a few hours this afternoon when wind dropped. Spot of hail at woolfords bus shelter but glorious sunshine and snowy hills. Some astonishingly bad sunday driving. Overtaking heading west when no space. Due to oncoming vehicles. Twice. Second one even had to pull back in to avoid a crash but went for second overtake seconds later. I guess she will be taken out by Darwin eventually?
Heavy snow forecast for tomorrow. Council have gritters out.

No snow yet in balerno. Rain yes, plenty of that
dreich monday
Snow flurries in Livingston before 8am but none on the ground and roads just wet.
The sun is rising but it isn't getting lighter. Conclusion: the snow is piling up waiting for me to set off.
Yeah, here it is.
Snowing in Fairmilehead now. My lawn is turning white, patio currently a distinguished-looking rufous salt'n'pepper.
Snowing in Tollcross too. With the UCU strikes today, I think I might as well head back to bed...
snow here now yes, a bit late. Also East wind for commute in to town and then West wind for commute home so head wind both ways.
Whereas certain lucky people will have tailwind both ways. THough some will also be standing on picket line in bad weather. Did this strike not cause bad weather before Xmas too?
Gave the Old College strikers a supportive tinkle on the big red bell even though their action is, I fear, entirely futile.
It's good to see people giving it a go.
Whereas certain lucky people will have tailwind both ways
Yes! :D
Mistakenly thought it would be icy at my bit (it's been really icy when it's been warmer!) so was raging as I made my way to the bus and realised that conditions underfoot were fine!
As gembo observed in the Spotted thread, I was well wrapped up for the picket line and took the cautious choice of the MTB this morning. The waterproofs did hold up fairly well for the cycle and a few hours hanging around in the snow, but I made the mistake of cycling back via the Water of Leith, which was incredibly wet and muddy, so I was very appreciative of a shower.
@jdanielp, I came down the WoL Path which was a little muddy and wet but you had to top trump me and come down the actual Water of LEith it is indeed very wet.
@CHDot - is the M9 duallled at that point?
