@gembo
That will be the Bannockburn bursting out and looking for a fight.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Railway flooded between Stirling and Perth.
NEW: Due to heavy rain we have had reports of flooding in the following areas;
Stirling and Perth - The line is currently closed due to the water levels at Mill O' Keir viaduct . Due to the depth of the water, a specialist team is en-route to inspect the area. https://t.co/kgV9rSk9av
Bus replacement service has to work round floods too.
Most trains to Perth and Inverness from Edinburgh go via Fife so disruption for Qu St.
@gembo: "is the M9 duallled at that point?" The M9 is dualled along its whole length. It pretty much has to be in order to be a motorway. The M9 is not the same road as the A9.
@cyclecommute.cc: The article is datelined Saturday 15th February. The road is no longer flooded. (I realise you might actually have known that, but the tone of your post is not clear.) Today on the bypass there is almost the opposite problem: a vehicle on fire.
@ejstubbs I think I was making a joke
Less windy and what? Not raining. It’ll not last
The stillness is unnerving.
Edinburgh was very sparkly at 6.30am. Even Slateford Rd was twinkly. Once beyond the bypass I didn't see any frost. I took A71 and it was just wet, I didn't get shouted at or honked, so all good. West Lothian roads were just wet and didn't see any frost on pavements. Unusual.
@bill Sunday afternoon in West Lothian the gritters were out in force, maybe the salt lasted two days?
@gembo gritters were out last night as well but normally I would see frost on pavements and below kerbs, but nothing today west of the bypass.
@bill, I slid a little on my front yard monoblock and pavement a little frosty out Balerno but is in the mountains
Oh, only wet road for me, nae dramas except that the A8 looks like it's been hit by shells and run over by tanks. Was there a war that I missed during the bad weather?
can i get an ice report, please ?
just frosty slippy, or genuinely hazardous
prefer not to use spikes unless i really have to
thanks
Looks icier today in the Balerno hills. Water frozen in the Rhônes
Main roads will be fine side streets bad is my guesstimate
Frosty Pocket for me this morning. P.S. Stayed in CraigLeith last night.
Very icy all over this morning. Only main roads properly free. The best gritted place by far was KB. But even bus lanes on Mayfield Gardens/Craigmillar Park were icy in between the wheel tracks (where I slipped - see Rubbish Cycling). Cycle lanes on Gilmerton Road and Mayfield Road conveniently marked the iciest bit. Motorists not always understanding (I never understand how they think that they can take the moral high ground).
Lots of white and sparkles on Slateford Rd and Calder Rd at 6.30. Cycle lanes on Chesser Ave also white.
Gogar Station Rd properly white, Cliftonhall Rd properly white with a freshly crashed car as I went through. After that I stayed on A71 all the way to Livingston. By the time I got to Livi the sun was above the horizon(!) and even side roads and pavements didn't seem too bad.
Take care all you there.
Rider down on Corstorphine Road after hitting ice in the middle of the bus lane...
I waited with him until the ambulance arrived. Hopefully should make a full recovery - it was his ankle.
Stay safe out there folks...
Frost everywhere but no ice on my five miles from the south to the west of the city this morning
There seems to have been a failure to grit at the right time today. I did see one gritter heading to Midlothian.
@hankchief - did a grey car also stop? And was a tartan blanket involved? I rode past this and was probably observed turning/looking at the situation as I passed. Looked well under control so I rode on, no offense intended!
@e87 - yep, that's the one. All in hand while we waiting for the ambulance.
There seems to have been a failure to grit at the right time today.
@amir Slateford Rd was well gritted as I came home last night at 7pm. My tyres were covered in salt (they were white). Ratho and Gogar roads were also freshly gritted on my way back so I trusted they would be fine. Probably not enough or as you say not at the right time?
Motorists not always understanding (I never understand how they think that they can take the moral high ground)
twisted herd dynamic, innit
often forms the basis of my daily moving meditation on the human condition
hard to escape the melancholy of it all
here's tom with the weather
Caught in the snow just there at the Jet GARAGE (Nether Currie). Wearing shorts but not too cold.
Did feel the need for a little glass of Marsanne. One of my favourite French white wines.
Black Ice in my pocket this morning. Go careful in the Calders today.
Snow on the ground but road clear -balerno way
not buying the ice hype today
i lose ten minutes each way rolling on spikes
Icy on many roads and paths this morning, spikes were essential. Take care out there...
oh alright then, moan grumble
