Did you ring @gembo's doorbell as you passed?

@IWARTS I have @gembo's home narrowed to 4 houses. I don't know if his neighbours would appreciate an early doorbell.

    @chdot:

    Is it a problem?

    Potentially

Did you arrive at work late and tired?

I arrived on time and not tired. I left home an hour earlier than normal.

Or was it trying to find the blackest ice??

Hopefully not. I didn't see any black ice. Hopefully it won't be back for the next few months.

You are correct! @gembo lives in four narrow houses.

What a lovely start to the morning but it has now clouded over.

@gembo lives in four narrow houses.

He only lives in one of them. The other three are needed for storing all his bicycles.

@bill, i thought you had it narrowed down more closely than that as there was talk of some product?

The third of the 4 narrow houses as you head west. With open front yard and ancient seven seater Toyota Yaris that abides.

I am generally first of the narrow people to rise but about 6.30a.m. If it is sunny though there is scope for socially distant second breakfast out the back door, given you are supplying the product.

HaRPERIG water low, but has been beautiful most of April and now may. I hope you noticed how litter free the verges are?

I was surprised by a pretty heavy rain shower this lunchtime. Not really forecast. But I was more worried about the washing drying at home.

@gembo I thought it would be the third or the fourth. Was going to ask you how you felt about Toyotas. No need for a breakfast, but thanks. Should deliver tomorrow if I self-rise early enough.

I have gone via Harburn 3 times in a row this week. In this weather Lang Whang is simply amazing and the windy roads through Harburn are delightful. Much warmer today than the last two mornings. Frosty but warmed up quickly.

@bill - west wind today, v light at bill o’clock though.

I think the easterlies have helped me see and hear the birdies more.

My baker will appreciate the product

Me too as i will get a morsel, so thank you kindly

That Toyota is ten years old. Just paid 680 pounds for service and brake pads but other than rotational parts it is incredibly reliable. Also fit a fair few bikes in it.

Snow on kips a very light dusting

Such strong North Easterly I went to Woolfords to break the Fietsclub Balerno SpeedSign record.

    Was 32mph :-(

Took me 3 goes but now have it at 33mph :-(

Getting back was v hard, hands still frozen

The swifts must wonder what they're doing huddled all torpid under the eaves from the snow when they could be eating flies in the tropics.

2 slight flurries of snow in EH12 this afternoon. Neither very long but both falling far to slowly to be describes as hail.

@gembo Glad i wasn't the only one genuinely worrying about that last night. Mid May and worrying about black ice... Luckily I didn't see any this morning along Lang Whang or Harburn. Verges also less frosty than last week. Sunrise now at 5am -- too early for me to catch it. I tend to leave at 5.30am these days. Had a poke about Harperrig 'beach'. No ice there either.

@gembo and @bill, this late in the season black ice on road surfaces is very unlikely. Even when air temperatures drop comfortably below freezing (as they have done the last few nights), the temperature of the road surface will stay above freezing due to a combination of:
    - the high temperature that tarmac reaches in the daytime with direct sunlight (a quick look at traffic scotland weather stations shows air temperatures of 7-8C, and road temps above 30C)
    - the relatively short period of darkness when roads can cool by radiation

Of course the inverse is true in winter. Lower maximum road temperatures in the day time and long hours of darkness mean that icy surfaces are extremely common even when the air temperature remains comfortably above freezing, hence why car thermometers often give an ice warning around 4-5C

@bill did you see the dead deer at balerno - there at 7.15

    Yup, good points @tarmachan. Thanks!

@gembo, I went via Glenbrook (because I love temporary lights, currently three sets in Balrno itself) and did not see the deer. Where was it?

Section 1b of the wombling route

Basically past the massive landscaping site that has been the same for 5-10 years.

Will be on your side on the way back @Bill if not lifted already

No traffic lights now on the main A70 you went geocaching temp traffic lights?

@gembo Most of the time I don't reply to your stuff is because I don't understand. Don't worry, no harm done. Just wanted to explain that I am not ignoring you.

Ok @bill. If you go up the hill past my house and then round the bends once the road straightens out a little that was where the dead deer was.

My Womble friends (litter pickers) took 13 bags of rubbish from that area this morning. So now there is very little litter I’m the verges from my house to Harperig Reservoir.

There are little A70 Litter Pickers every 3000 feet on the A70.

A severely glorious morning. Sat on the back step under a cloudless blue sky, sun filtering through the new leaves on the ash tree.

I think a 'commute' is in order.

A wee bit blowy out there today! At least you can see all the fallen branches and where the wind pushes you.

Had to take the tent down last night in prep for the storm.

It was a useful storage space for small people.
