It's going to be a cold one tonight, I think. I rode out to Penicuik this evening and the tarmac was quite sparkly in places and some parked cars had a lot of frost on them. The railway path was fine, albeit mucky. I haven't put the Marathon Winter on the front of Matilda the Elephant Bike yet, but I was quite tempted last week,

It suggests by the 2040s most of southern England could no longer see sub-zero days. By the 2060s only high ground and northern Scotland are still likely to experience such cold days.

I know it's not good but part of my wishes it was 2060 now.

It's not good. We'll get malaria. If we're lucky.

Frosty windscreens In Fairmilehead this morning as I set out to get the bus to collect our brace of Christmas pheasant at 8am. Still some frozen bits in the gutters when I got home. Nothing particularly slippery though.

Canal has a reasonable amount of ice on it. Canal path dry.

Looked like snow on way back from Cornelius. manna no longer on Easter road?

Manna House closed some time ago, sadly. New cafe/takeaway that replaced it is nice, but not the same.

Braid Road was well slippy at 2pm today, on the uphill stretch southbound from the Hermitage cafe. Dusting of snow on the Pentlands this morning, might have been more further north.

Canal path super slippery from boroughmuir to Harrison park. Better from Harrison Rd to Ashley terrace.
Warned a guy on a bike, who turned off down the ramp into HP east, then we heard a crash.

I gritted the footway on my street and the Restalrig Road slope down to the bike path but it looks like it's warming a little compared to earlier. Big icy puddle on the Restalrig Path just east of Hawkhill Ave reported to @edinhelp and tagged #EdTravCyc, in case anyone but me follows it...

Snow! And plenty of it.
Just as the Met Office warned...

Fair bit of snow in the night, cars getting through now but were struggling earlier

Went out to Harperig. Fine until Auchindoon brae - sketchy on the west side so came home. Most drivers slow and overtaking on other side. One white van driver doing his usual speed one slightly closer pass and oh yeah a massive artic transporting farm feeds tried to overtake on the blind summit at the Leyden hill turn and. Met a car on the other side. They both braked and waited until safe.

If anyone finds any gaps in their studs when refitting their winter tyres and also finds that German bicycle suppliers are no longer shipping to the mainland UK, I've just found my packet of spare studs and can spare some after refilling mine...

I found my spare studs, my spare insets for Ortlieb clips and one of the spare grub screws. The mighty Trev has drilled out the old one. Soon the winter bike will have matching brake blocks on the front.
I also found a wee dead field mouse with its neck broken in a trap with its gnashes wrapped around the section of fudge in trap. Definitely winter now.

I installed an aluminium barricade today to stop the mice getting into the oatcake cupboard.
How long is the snow and ice staying? Should I move my single pair of working brakes from the singlespeed to the spikey-tyred geared bike, once I get the tyres fitted?

Low temps and light winds for another week?
First field mouse had a very short tail.
Let us see what tonight’s trap yields

Local dudes sledging in the dark while smoking ganja. Looked like fun, not sure how they were getting back up the hill.

@hankchief has made an igloo. He sleeps,in the kitchen with his feet in the hall.

I've only been out on the mountain bike and mostly off road but have found the snow to be of a very grippy nature. I even managed to climb up Maudsley Hill in Cammo.
Back wheel far harder to skid than usual in the local field.

Heavy(er) snow reported in south Edinburgh; microsnow busily coming down in That Midlothian. I have installed the Marathon Winters on Matilda the Elephant Bike, and we will be somewhere between slow and unstoppable for tomorrow's journeys.

Tomorrow forecast looks very bad take care arellcat.
Fife looked gloomy from glorious if very slippy lymphoy earlier and sort of cloudy and a few flaked in balerno now.
Glad I was out this am A70 well salted as my protege complained due to the salt spray I was chucking up. Nearly tempted to go down the Tarbrax turn as had also been salted. Too. Cold though for such gambles.
Yesterday was more sketchy as think snowed after the gritters went out.
