Lots of chat on local facebook group. "Why didn't they grit...." "They did grit but it kept raining again ..." "Why don't folk grit in front of their own houses ...."
Ice grips on feet and bikes the only way - or stay in.
CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Our local grit bin has been mostly emptied, then got wet, then frozen, and turned into a salt mine requiring something approaching dynamite to extract anything.
The nice thing about living in a cul de sac is it's quiet. The bad thing is that it's quiet, and consequently it has never seen a gritter lorry in its life. The road was like an ice rink this morning; I really think you could have skated on it. My Marathon Winters helped me stay upright as I walked to the nearest mainer road where cars had started to pulverise the ice into submission. Got home, hammered away at the grit bin with my shovel and managed to throw down some grit on the footway and the road.

The greyhound was doing excellent Bambi on ice impressions in our dead end road this morning.
Sally Hincliffe’s grit bin has been stolen, well ransacked
English Pointers have an extra claw at the back that helps the, on ice and rips your jumpers
Our street just got gritted for the first time in recorded history!
Black ice reported hereabouts.
Pavements mostly clear at canal level, but frostier at higher levels (Bruntsfield).
No problems with ice around Abbeyhill/Meadowbank/Craigentinny areas today. Was rather mild overall. Soil at the allotment still had a frozen crust, up to around 3cm deep in places.
So I think very cold overnight past few days, but largely thawing on tarmac surfaces in more coastal parts of Edinburgh during the day.
Soggy snow/slow rain falling around Meadowbamk a few minutes ago, but not settling. Feels quite warm, but Restalrig Path still icy in shadowy areas.
Forecast is for snow around midnight, then for temperatures to drop to -5 degrees Celsius, so liable to be pretty icy in the morning.
Solid ice on the ungritted back roads around here-Gorebridge,Temple area -has been for days now
For studs only
Royal Mail has classified our house as inaccessible since Boxing Day
The ice in flooded fields is walkable in West Edinburgh. Other patches still thin so take care if your out for pleasure.
Very icy today. Might just stay in...
Forecast is -7 C tonight! Probably colder further inland.
That's a risk of burst pipes tomorrow in poorly heated buildings...
@crowriver at least the thaw is coming tomorrow pm so quite close to the freeze so maybe better chance of people being around.

Wow. Can imagine it will be a few more days as ice is building up tonight!
Think so! At least no bills through the post for a bit , but starting to get Amazon withdrawal symptoms
Went to cycle last night. Lock frozen solid. Thawed it out and went to ride carefully up the icy street but the pedals just went round and round in thin air as the freehub pawls were frozen in the disconnected position.
Poured a kettle of boiling water on the rear hub and went my way, gears unfreezing one by one fingers birlin wi the cal.
I had arranged a socially distant outdoor meeting but that person fell off their bike on Lanark Road and was late.
The thaw is on, A70 looks rideable. Will give it a try later after locating my sun glasses
The Mighty Thaw!
its good to be back in the saddle
Walked up to Harlaw then headed up maidens cleugh but was like Scott of the antarctic so headed towards the black springs path and over the stile which was ultra slippy. Met one cyclist we knew and various Blaernoites leaving that spelling. Anyway locals outnumbering visitors and no radge verge parking until 1300hrs when the first car parked in daft place. Others will follow this example but nothing like any other day I have been up to The High Ponds (in March I will have been in blerno 20 years , so only ten more to go before I am local and can say High Ponds).
Off to recce the Lanark Rd now on bike with mudguards but I think the slush has gone and I don’t think there is meant to be a frost tonight.
Many people walking on Blackford pond. Made me very nervous I have to admit but perhaps I am being risk averse. Don't think rescue efforts and a&e full of injuries/hypothermia are really what's needed right now.
Air temperature has been rising all day (currently 4°C) but the wind still had a bitey edge to it when I popped out for milk & a paper at lunchtime.
Canal frozen solid in places. I went on it to rescue a kids trike which someone had tossed on. I don't suspect it will be found ifissing but hopefully it won't end up at the bottom of the canal.
Seems I'm not the only one who found walking on the pond irresponsible. Was wondering if I was overreacting.

Basketball bit in Lochend park frozen solid and very slippy yesterday. Popped out today with a bag of salt from a nearby bin to do the Hawkhill Avenue slope, but it had thawed overnight. Also checked that the nearest gritbin (https://maps.app.goo.gl/K9aVW4sb4miq13nf7) was full, which it was.
Filthy out at Tarbrax today (basically low cloud). But was easie4 on return with wind behind
