“
Mark Cavendish has won his first bike race in three years, having battled back from injury and illness and patiently waiting for his chance
”

Ten seconds of hail in EH6...
Posted 3 years ago # -
just got back after picking my bike up from Harts and it started - a close call.
Delayed going out again until the sun came out :)

Snow on the higher hills in the Moorfoots (Dundreich and Black Hope Scar).

All hail the hail forecast this week.
Some bouncing off my helmet on Sunday. It's great the hail shelters (aka cafes) are open again.

Texas had hail yesterday, though someone suggested calling it "deathstones" instead.

Snow today in Edinburgh. Only a few seconds, but better than nothing.

Hail too now ..

I got in moments before that down pour. Its May!!
Posted 3 years ago # -
Somebody appears to be pouring enormous quantities of harling stones over Gilmerton.
Posted 3 years ago # -
It's still white outside from the hail 4 hours ago. May!

Pentlands are looking freshly iced this evening.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Road between Drem and Athelstaneford was slushy/icy to the point of being treacherous this evening. Was really regretting my glove choice and lack of overshoes (but you don’t really expect to need them in May!!)

Moorfoots covered to lower levels now. I'd guess 200 m. Also ice on eskbank station bridge.

Veracity of RLS ‘s description of spring in Edinburgh as “meteorological purgatory “ confirmed for another year!

I used to live in Harperrig cottage ( at a rent of £10 a week to Lord Morton)along the Lang Whang ,and remember a couple of days in mid June around 1980 when we were cut off by snowdrifts.

The Met Office kindly sent me a severe weather warning this morning, alerting me to the risk of snow up until 11am today. I can only conclude, therefore, that the stuff that fell out of the sky here at around 16:30 and which appeared to be H20 in the solid phase must instead have been unicorn dandruff or something of that ilk...

Big Polo fan, left £11m to his heirs.
Drovers Cottage?
Harperrig House recently shifted for a modest amount. Has its own turbine.
There is an excellent grave marker also at the far boundary almost Royal Tennenbaum in its plaudits. Visible if walking the south shore path of the reservoir which wasn’t really there back then.

Glad my 10 quid a week went to a good cause!
Cottage was called Harperrig Cottage , next to the farmhouse which was also rented out by the Lordy
There was a cottage further round the reservoir, possibly called Drover’s cottage ,which I lusted after as it was £1 a week .But no electricity and about six gates to open and shut to reach it .Mrs SS at time was not keen
Good location for wind turbines - I used to try and grow Brussel sprouts- there was about two foot of horizontal growth and just a few inches of vertical growth
I took the name of the old drovers track to Baddinsgill, the Cauldstane Slap, rather personally, as an icy north wind slapped me in the face most days I opened the door
All the glass in the windows blew in one day!
Warm memories of a few years of hypothermiaPosted 3 years ago # -

You should return. The reservoir is a hotbed of SUP. Cairns Castle Is a wedding venue. All mod cons right round the reservoir.
