I did tell the then Mrs SS that we would have saved £9 pounds a week by moving there but she seemed to want more home comforts like electricity and running piped water
Can’t believe that’s the current price - a small cottage in a very inclement part of the world with I think the kennels of some long forgotten fox hunt attached
Maybe worth a fiver a week now in reality That’s 500% increase But reality with property values seems to have been suspended

I chose the wrong legwear for a ride out today to Peebles and Innerleithen. I should have been wearing roubaix tights, but was in shorts. It was [Rule 2] cold.

I made a similar mistake for a lap of the Pentlands yesterday evening. I had the longs on but should have had full winter gear as the temperature dipped below zero. Thankfully it warmed up after we stopped for chips in Penicuik.

Penny cook chips apparently under done?

They taste good when it's 10 minutes to closing and it's zero degrees out.

Everyone in the UK cooks chips under done (although Zimbabwe even worse...the things you guys teach your colonies...)

One recent exception is the bike-friendly Pizza Slice place whose chips were unbelievably good the the first time we had them, and almost as good the second time.

@SRD - From another colony, NZ, the chips there are very good, as are the fish and chips generally.

I'd say it's like winter today but that would be doing winter a disservice.

At least working from home I can put the heating on, the office would be freezing on a day like this.

Perfectly normal to be going out at the end of May in full waterproofs and wearing a scarf...

I was out in my newish waterproof and, oh wonders, it really is waterproof. I did get cold though - I'd cast my clout i.e. one layer.

@Morningsider - come on, "rough winds do shake the darling buds of May" - I'm sure I quote that every year, at this time of the year.

I had to double check the date before heading out today. Yep, definitely 21st of May. Feels more like early March, but with longer daylight hours.

Bit of a north Westerly we thought this morning.

Made it out the Whang over from Kaimend to Biggar and from there down the glorious green valley to Broughton. Fantastic cake and coffee from the Broughton Store, then up Dreva, Tweed Valley gorgeous. Then round to Drumelzier all very pretty. Bit of a slog back to Biggar then over to the Clyde and up to Carnwath. Whang was Ok on return but no real tail wind.

No rain, a bit of sunshine, breeze was moderate just not from the prevailing direction so waiting for the benefits of a tail was a long time coming.

Made it up from England unscathed, even picnic at middle class motorway service station. But stair rods from Bathgate and siling down at Kirknewton.

Garage roof was a swimming pool I was up on it in the thunder but down when there was a suspicion of. Lightning

had a post-shower pedal round, Cannonmills, Warriston, Trinity, Stockbridge - all disappointingly unsubmerged, WoL seemed meh - and there was me on the 29er ready for the post-apocalypse hell-scape.

    Exceptionally localised:

The #weather station at #Edinburgh Royal Botanic Gardens recorded an incredible 40.6mm (1.6inches) of #rain in just one hour between 1700-1800 this evening! …Compare that with only 8.8mm at the neighbouring station at Gogarbank, within the same hour. #showers #flashfloods
