Running a business is tough - but if I ran a bathroom company I probably wouldn't advertise the fact that I can't seem to waterproof my own property.

I'm looking forward to finally finding out whether the guttering I put up on our summerhouse to collect rainwater for our wildlife pond is up to the job.

The southerly breeze picked up a bit late last night. Fearing the forecast thunderstorms might happen overnight, I went round closing windows that have lain open for weeks. Then today it's another bright, sunny, warm day. Went round opening all the windows again. All this new wet weather was originally supposed to happen yesterday. Beebly weather still shows rain at the moment, but no sign of it when I look out the window. Thunderstorms from 4pm apparently - we'll see.

@crowriver - ha! I did exactly the same.

Also, thanks for the reminder - gave me a chance to check that the drain in the back garden is clear BEFORE the torrential rain starts this time.

Very industrious! A wee errand that involved going up Liberton Brae twice left me so wiped out that all I could manage yesterday evening was to lie on my hearthrug and pant, thinking of rain.

My windows are still very much open.

If and when the rain arrives I shall dance in it.

Hm, the radar map shows heavy rain showers moving in overnight tonight. So time to go round closing windows again this evening.....but not too early. Rain supposed to hit at the back of midnight. Could be very localised. Balerno and west maybe flooded while north east Edinburgh stays relatively dry; Moorfoots and Pentlands drenched while Cramond might escape. All over by Thursday?

It's nearly 4pm and no sign of much in the way of clouds, never mind thunderstorms. Beebly weather site still swears blind we are having dark clouds and lightning right now. Where are they then? Pah, weather forecasts...!

@MediumDave, agreed. I had an errand to do on the Pronto yesterday. On the way back it was all uphill and I was drenched in sweat. Not so much the heat as the humidity. Got a tiny sample of what the athletes in Tokyo must be experiencing... :-)

I get headaches in thundery weather - big one building (I think it is caused by rather than being the cause)

@amir, "(I think it is caused by rather than being the cause)"

You sure about that? :-) Stereotypically folk complain about their rheumatism playing up or suchlike. Radar map does show heavy rain for Midlothian...

Can see one at West Calder on the map? Otherwise nowt so far.

Windows wide open here. Sky a bit overcast now but still bright and no thunder audible.

Looking at the UK lightning map, most of the action seems to be to the west and north, mountainous highland terrain...

Not a good time to be in Elgin or Findhorn either by the looks of it...

When somewhat younger, I had a spell as a sailing instructor at an adventure holiday place for kids. I spent about 6 months living in a tent but that period was blessed by dry weather. As mediumDave suggests, when we finally had a storm, everyone was out showering in the rain, soap and all. Brilliant feeling.

Blue skies overhead just now. I spy clouds to the south west and north.

@MediumDave - man, haven't heard that in yonks! Once saw Slayer at Ingliston (part of the Clash of the Titans tour with Megadeth, Testament and Suicidal Tendancies - gulp, 30 years ago!) and they were so loud that they effectively blew the roof off - you could clearly see the sky from inside.

EDIT - also saw them at the Playhouse (amazing, but a venue more suited to Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat than thrash).

Well I feel very let down. I have not watered the garden thinking that the rain would come and it's just a bit cooller. Perhaps I should get out the watering can to bring it on?

@Rosie, often works for me. Maybe best give it a really good soaking with a hose just to make sure Murphy's L:aw comes into effect!

On my way home I was caught in a shower from Mid Calder to the middle of East Calder. I started taking out my rain jacket on the temp traffic lights but didn't manage before it turned green, so put away the jacket. Good decision as no rain on the eastern end of East Calder and as well as the rest of the journey.

Torrential in Pitlochry for the last couple of hours with the added fun of lightening strikes knocking out the electricity. Kids enjoyed watching the rain until they were plunged into darkness

It had finally got around to raining here when I went to bed, and it was raining when I got up but it's now stopped. According to the Met Office, it didn't rain much if at all while I was asleep, and they've changed their mind about the continuous rain which they had previously been forecasting for today. I think bathroom showroom man can rest easy for now.

Monsoon like downpour around midnight which tested the gullies - test passed I'm glad to say.

My flat is in a slight dip with pavements sloping downwards on three sides. In heavy rain it's like being at the edge of a plughole.

Big container filled to the brim.

None of that promised thunder though.

Though it took its time I enjoyed the downpour at midnight. Cycling in the rain this morning was very pleasant too.

@Morningsider given the timing of the rain I didn't treat the neighbours to the full 28 minute masterpiece through loudspeaker! But I did listen to Raining Blood on headphones while leaning out the window. Then went for a wander round the park. No flash-flooding near me, unlike July 4th.

    Marvellous.

anyone else think it's about to start raining? BBC weather says just cloud until 5pm when rain; met office says cloud until 5pm when it will be sunny.

Just about to take a wooden door outside for sanding, so a bit anxious....
