Local SEPA monitoring stations all showing big peaks earlier this morning, most seem to be subsiding now:

The Braid Burn at Liberton seems to have risen quite quickly, but the North Esk at Penicuik even more so. My garden pond doesn't seem to be threatening to overflow yet, though.

(I wasn't aware that SEPA had suffered a cyber attack recently. Where's Dr Who when you need her?)

I'm not surprised there's a warning for Cramond. The Almond is running deep and brown at the Brig.

@chdot: Phew, let's just hope they'll be in time...

I wasn't aware that SEPA had suffered a cyber attack recently.

It was on Christmas Eve last year, and it was a highly organised ransomware attack that disabled SEPA's access to nearly all of its systems.

    My bold

Scottish Government-appointed maintenance firm Bear Scotland said restrictions may be required on bridges such as Skye Bridge, Kessock Bridge, Dornoch Bridge, Cromarty Bridge, Friarton Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge. The A1, in south east Scotland, is also expected to be impacted by the high winds.

    Presume no cycling?

The storm is called Arwen - really inappropriate for an Elf Princess who spent her time embroidering (book, not film).

I worked with someone who had been named after her - a quiet, mild-mannered woman.

Glad to hear you got it back. We have friends over the hill in Oxton who were similarly afflicted.

@nobrakes - yes - city dwellers rarely have such outages. You'll be enjoying heat and hot food today!
Heard that Strathardle and parts of P&K still off since Friday. Tenant has wood burning stove so she will survive.

Was up the hill for a walk yesterday afternoon.

You can just about spot the gate I normally open to cut up through the woods. Pretty big tree brought down on top of it.

Indeed. Aboyne was reconnected this morning but further up deeside and more remote valleys still out. Aboyne have been advised that the current fix is only temporary.

One local engineer who was out in the storm said it was the first time he had been scared while on a job.
